Bar Crawl PERMITS up for final vote TONIGHT

Mayor DeFusco's ordinance wants to make Hoboken Bar Crawls Great Again

On the agenda tonight: the Hoboken City Council will vote on whether or not the City of Hoboken become the licensing authority for those annual holiday 'Con'  invasions.  If this ordinance passes, the City will become the legal regulatory authority for events like last season's "Ultimate Santa Crawl Experience".  The promoters of that 2019 event advertised it as a "charity"- collected nothing- but promised revelers a good time:

"Picture thousands of Santa's and inebriated elves running wild through the streets of Hoboken and gaining access to some of the best bars you can imagine - that's exactly what you'll see on Saturday December 7, 2019 in Hoboken. Known as the most fun event of the holiday season, SantaCon is taking over Hoboken again. "

The premise of codifying the City's will 'host' giant bar crawls, without restriction other than a nominal permit fee, is ridiculous; a huge liability for Hoboken taxpayers, and sanctions the use of our city for these arbitrary internet-organized Bacchanalias.

Our beloved city is not a rental event space. Mayor DeFusco should know better.

Note, Mayor DeFusco has arbitrarily picked the amount $100K for the estimated taxpayer cost of each 'Con' bar crawl. On what basis? The cost to the City would correlate with the number of participating venues- something that is bound to increase once the City starts permitting.

Well, here's Mayor DeFusco's ordinance... oh, you didn't know he's fundraising for his 2021 mayoral campaign?  It's true. Only 7 weeks in to his new council term and he's already sick of representing the First Ward!
