Hoboken Proud swearing-in! Shifting alliances!

HOBOKEN PROUD GETS SWORN IN!

left to right: Newly-minted School Board members Chetali Khanna, Melanie Tekirian , newly-minted Mayor Bhalla, and 2nd term BoE Trustee Sharyn Angley

Oh, the weather outside was frightful,
Their inauguration was so delightful,
Now its their turn to show,
Commitment to advancing our schools, supporting Hoboken district teachers and students!

A hearty congratulations to the new Hoboken District School Board Trustees Chetali Khanna and Melanie Tekirian plus  two-termer Sharyn Angley, all of whom were sworn in last Thursday night at Demarest Auditorium!

Chetali  being sworn in..

Melanie being sworn in... Mayor Bhalla, Councilman Jim Doyle, wife Leah Healy, Allen Kratz, Frank Magaletta, Jim Castiglione watch from the audience...

Sharyn being sworn in...

They won't show signs of stopping,
Dark Side noggins are a-popping,
'Cause our budget they cannot blow,
No more backdoor antics with HoLa & Petrosino!

How refreshing, to have a board cleansed of the HoLa-Whisperer.

SHIFTING COUNCIL ALLIANCES
You know, last week GA was reeling from the betrayal of Council "Sell-Outs".   By that I mean the merger of Councilpersons Giattino, Fisher and Cunningham with Ruben Ramos and Mike DeFusco to form a hostile, anti-Reform voting bloc.

Last Wednesday night, the new political faction flexed its majority-muscle; the Sell-Out/Dark Side faction completely shut out Councilpersons Jim Doyle and Emily Jabbour from the reorganization and appointments; BOTH Doyle and Jabbour  are fervent supporters of Reform's BoE Trustees and candidates, and to be frank, are allied with many like-minded Hoboken School District supporters.  Yet, the Sell-Outs iced Doyle and Jabbour in favor of two opponents of Reform, who did not support Hoboken Proud.

That's right, Ruben Ramos and Mike DeFusco supported Hoboken Proud's challengers, Peter Biancamano's BoE slate.

And so, the Giattino-Fisher-Cunningham consequential decision to (1) bar election winners Jim Doyle and Emily Jabbour from participation in the reorganization, (2) kick Doyle off the Planning Board and appoint Ruben Ramos Council President, instead of election winner Jim Doyle, is just a reminder of how our political landscape shifted last week.

Look at this 2013 photo. Can you find Ruben Ramos?  Can you find Mike DeFusco?

Sorry, you can't have it both ways.

Councilpersons who empower opponents of Reform School Board candidates cannot claim to represent Reform.

Hoboken's School District  suffered immensely under former Dark Side management; to this day a Dark Side ally on the HoLa Board continues to attack the Hoboken District schools from his Texas lair.  Now Jen Giattino, Tiffanie Fisher and Peter Cunningham belong to a political faction with opponents of Hoboken District progess.

In 2013, Ruben Ramos supported Brian Murray, the realtor who uses Hoboken school rankings in advertising "Hoboken to the Burbs"

You know, since 2009, Reform Council members have generally supported the Reform school board coalition, starting with Kids First. I say generally, because not all Reform Council members supported the Reform BoE's opposition to (first) DaVinci Charter School nor district opposition to HoLa's Charter expansion(s), which resulted in litigation.

But, generally speaking, Reform Councilpersons supported the tremendous effort to it took for the Reform BoE to eradicate Dark Side cockroaches, and supported the Reform BoE hires, and the myriad programs and advances under their management. Until now.

Can anyone answer these:

Why did so-called Reformers sell out to the Dark Side?

Why did they put Ruben Ramos' hands on Hoboken's levers of power?

Why did they shut out principled, good government Reform BoE supporters like Jim Doyle and Emily Jabbour?

Why are they aligning against Mayor Ravi Bhalla?

  2. I remember some faux outrage during the campaign about Bhalla not being a “true” KF supporter. I guess we’re past that now? Is there anything we’re not past?
