The 2017 BoE Swearing in

GA was delighted to see all the supporters who trekked out in the rain last night to witness the swearing-in of the Forward Together team.

Supporters included the families of 'new' BoE Trustees Sheila Dallara, Jen Evans and Irene Sobolov, rockin' mommies like Vera Sirota, Linda Kwok,, Sung Kim and Emily Jabbour, Former Board Trustees Theresa Minutillo and Jean Marie Mitchell, Forward Together's campaign manager Deirdre Wall,  Reach Higher candidate Addys Velez, the Honorable Mayor Dawn Zimmer, her Chief of Staff  Vijay Chaudhuri , Councilpersons Tiffanie Fisher, Ravi Bhalla and Jim Doyle, the brilliant Leah Healy,  historic preservationist Allen Kratz, Freeholder Anthony Romano,  Amber Lynn, and the lovely John Heinis, reporting for Hudson County View.

The swearing-in ceremony was (mostly) uneventful, except for one shy, little cutie who needed coaxing from dad to stand up front with mom Jennifer Evans!

Good job, Dad!  Brave girl!
Folks, this is what your 2017 Hoboken District School Board looks like, minus John Madigan (late) and Brit Montgomery (absent).

2017 Hoboken Board of Education

Next on the agenda was the board reorganization.

Tom Kluepfel was nominated and seconded to remain Board President.

That's when Peter Biancamano earned his nom de plume  Sandwich Head.  Biancamano asked for permission to give the statement before voting...

Try to follow along.

Biancamano whined how "I didn't receive any phone calls from Tom asking for my vote"  and how he'd always called for "common courtesy among board members" -- calling Kluepfel out for an alleged breach of protocol or manners or both.   Biancamano then proclaimed that he would go "against" his own rule and vote for Tom.

Huh?  Did anybody ask why you were voting for Tom?

So why share this petulant sulk-fest with the public?

It is truly disconcerting to hear a Board Trustee announce that he was not properly stroked by a fellow board member, and that such homage is a factor in deciding his vote.

 Wow.

Thank goodness, Hoboken was spared BoE President Biancamano and VP Madigan.

So, after two unanimous "yes" votes (Tom- Board President,  Sharon Angley - Vice President), a short speech by Freeholder Romano,  the first BoE meeting of 2017 meeting ended.

GA had a quick chat with Stick before I left.  I thanked him for sending the Christmas card.  I asked, "You didn't send that card to anyone else in Hoboken, right? Just me!"

Well, that's all folks. Apparently I missed this scene- a friend texted:
Patty is screeching outside about the BOE- politicking and racism and segregation.

Happy New Year!

  1. It's really great that Amber Lynn made the swearing in ceremony. Love the photo.

  2. I think you were too easy on Romano in your blog post. He supported a BOE slate that crapped all over our kids and our high school, posted pics with a heroin syringe!!! The fact that he had the balls to even come to the meeting shows what a douchebag he is!! He doesn't care about our district or our students or our teachers... It's all just politics to him!!

    1. Yes, I suppose I was. I wasn't expecting Stick to show after he spilled his 'juice' on November 8.

  3. Best of luck to the new and continuing board members- great post GA.

  4. Stick is trying to get back to center, with his tail between his legs. He keeps seeing the local writing on the wall so at best he is trying to salvage support for running for Freeholder. He knows he doesn't have a chance at Mayor.

    1. If Stick stands by and lets the County taxes go up double digit on Hoboken taxpayers again he may not even be able to hold on to his Freeholder paycheck.

  5. This marks the beginning of the 9th consecutive year of majority control of the Hoboken Board of Education by this group (under various names). Amazing!!!

    1. I've lost track of how many years in a row the alternative was the usual old guard stooges whose main objectives were lining their pockets and patting themselves on the back for being community-minded.

      Amazing!

  6. The politicians who regret their behavior from the election can certainly offer to support the myriad of great programs at the high school, many of which are fundraising this winter and spring. That could be a concrete way to show that they truly are adopting a new attitude towards the district.

    1. Really? Stick throws open his bar for two hours during a slow Thurs evening and all is forgotten? Years of HIS candidates bashing Hoboken High. Pics of hypodermic needles and BS accusations of violence all washed away with some prizes and a few pics? Will Branco pose with Stick and Biancamano handing over the "Big Check" for a band they have never even bothered to see play. Disgusting and beyond cynical politics.

  7. Question (excuse my ignorance) Why is fundraising needed? Isn't the district adequetly funded?

    1. Many extra curricular activities are not funded by the district. Not sure about which ones, but when I was a kid, the athletic department did fundraisers to pay for things like uniforms, awards dinners & such. The theater program did fundraisers for supplies & costumes. The senior class did a fundraiser for a senior class trip. Some fundraisers were bake sales, others car washes. I know I've had my car washed by kids at the HS before here in Hoboken and the money went to some sort of extra curricular activity.
