NJ Supreme Court agrees to hear City's argument to reverse Monarch ruling

Good news, Hoboken! The New Jersey Supreme Court has accepted the City's  petition for permission to argue for the reversal of the Appellate Division's decision against us.

For concerned parties, the following is yesterday's release from Hoboken City Hall:

HOBOKEN PREVAILS IN LATEST MONARCH LITIGATION

The New Jersey Supreme Court has granted the City of Hoboken’s petition for certification asking it to review the denial of Hoboken’s appeal of the decision regarding the “Monarch Project” by the New Jersey Appellate Division. That previous decision by the Appellate Division cleared the way for the development of two 11 story high rise residential developments in uptown Hoboken. The recent petition granted by the New Jersey Supreme Court is rarely given, which is a positive development for Hoboken.

“This is excellent news for Hoboken and our waterfront,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “From the very beginning of my administration, we’ve held firm to the belief that any large-scale residential development on the waterfront would pose a risk to the public safety of our residents and first responders. I’m thankful that the Supreme Court will allow us to make this argument, so we can protect our waterfront and preserve it for public, open space. Given this recent ruling, my administration will continue to explore any and all options to ensure the Monarch development does not get built and jeopardize public safety and our waterfront. Thank you to all of the members of the public who have spoken out and signed a petition in favor of preserving the Monarch property for a public park.”

Mayor Bhalla and the City have pursued settlement negotiations over the past several months with Shipyard Associates, the property owners of the “Monarch Project” land, to resolve the litigation between the City and Shipyard Associates. Mayor Bhalla and the City attorneys will brief the City Council on the status of settlement discussions with Shipyard Associates, as well as the potential impact of the Supreme Court’s determination, during the closed session of the City Council meeting on Wednesday.

  1. It’s it’s not a win, it’s a chance to make the case again. Funny Nora shows up last night as a champion of Hudson Tea residents ... typical machine politician that shows up only after announcing a run for office.
Haven’t seen such puppetry and resume fabrication since the and Mason slates.

    1. Sure, it's a win. It's not a victory. But, the fact the NJ Supreme Court will hear Hoboken's argument opens the door to a victory. Right?

Not sure why you are picking on Nora for meeting future constituents. Sounds like what she should be doing, listening to their concerns; they should have a problem with her if she didn't show up. So, are you going to disparage every ward candidate for campaigning in their respective ward? I get it: you support candidates like DeFusco who shows up at election time to hand out Union, PAC and developer-paid swag to constituents, and candidates like Ruben, who is too lazy to campaign (cause he actually doesn't care what his constituents think) but gets a lot of help-- especially VBM help- take a look! Bhalla vs. Ramos 2011 Primary: who was the VBM King?

    2. Participate here but have to abide by a few rules of engagement but at least have some people read what you say..... or go back to the alt right mausoleum and say whatever you like but for an audience of one. Decisions, decisions.

    3. If one cares about the community they should prove it before running for office... like Zimmer did.
Not like Camnarano and DeFusco did

    4. The VBM King AND Queen in 2007 was Dawn Zimmer and her Sewer Appointee Poopie Raia

Wonder what back booth diner her husband struck that deal in.

    5. Well, Anon @ 12:25 PM, if what you say about Dawn Zimmer and your former NHSA colleague is true, then lucky that neither are on the 2019 ballot!

Sadly, your pal Ruben "VBM King of 2011 and (oops!) 2015" Ramos is on the ballot. So, you may fling all the ancient, desiccated poo you like-- if it makes you feel better, but irrelevant. Ruben is on the ballot, not Dawn. Not Pupie. So Ruben's shocking VBM legacy is relevant to this election. Right? I understand, it is an uncomfortable topic now. But Ruben has not been implicated so don't be afraid to discuss his shocking past.

    9. Anon @ 4:30 PM- I'm so glad we had this time together. Just to have a laugh or sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say so long....

So long, Troll. Your commenting privileges here (under your oh-so-clever array of IPs) have been permanently revoked. Go back to the bigot-blog which is more your speed, and suitable for someone of your depraved indifference to social norms (like civility). Amazing that you are a public official paid with my tax dollars. Buh-bye Troll and don't let my cyber-storm door smack you in the ass on your way out! 😂

    10. So it's back to the alt-right mausoleum I guess.

I'll never get why people who are so obsessed with politics can be so hopelessly ineffective in their daily activities "on behalf of" their preferred candidates.

From Barracato posting anti-GA stickers on election day; to MSV placing himself on the wrong end of the generation gap by attacking the Lime scooters and the bona fides of candidates he doesn't know (as if that's their problem and isn't more of a comment on his cloistered life); to anon here electing to bring his messages back to a rotting corpse of a blog where "get Beth Mason" is still considered a relevant battle cry and Qanon is considered a prophet.

I doubt they realize how much they are helping their opponents with all the trivial pursuit of inside baseball and politically tone-deaf rhetoric. Bhalla should pay them.

    11. Why pay for horse crap when the horse gives it for free and your opponents roll around in it willingly?
