Bhalla vs. Ramos 2011 Primary: who was the VBM King?

There is only one Hoboken election where Mayor Ravi Bhalla went head-to-head with 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos: that's the 2011 Primary for Legislative District 33 Assembly.  If you recall, Bhalla ran off the HCDO column, pissed off Brian Stack, got creamed.

So, GA was wondering...

In the only Bhalla vs. Ramos electoral contest, how many votes-by-mail (VBMs) were cast for each?  Legislative District 33 encompasses Hoboken, Jersey City, Union City and Weehawken.

GA pulled the 2011 results (bottom of page) for that election held on June 7, 2011. VBM totals cast for each candidate (plus municipality total) are shown below:

Wow! What a surprise... not.

CONCLUSION
It should be clear to our Hudson County neighbors that Hoboken's elections are, um... different.

Our population may be small, but we are politically engaged with a vigorous partisan divide between an entrenched culture of vote-buying and those who want to reform our unclean elections.

Will the entry of the United States v. Lizaida Camis change our political culture? Like the scoreboard above says: "We'll see."

  1. Keep in mind that the VBM's represent only a fraction of the people paid by Ramos to "work"/vote for him. Lots of paid "workers" vote at the polls.

    1. Yes, that is true. Unfortunately that's unverifiable. I do have the VBM print-out for this election, so its doable to see what percentage of "paid workers" voted by mail. The other "paid workers" likely voted at the polls.

    2. The "worker" list used to be pretty good data, though at some point after 2010 they started to illegally hide the info laundering the payments through third party "consultants."
