What a disgrace. Ruben Ramos and Mike Russo want to "abolish" Hoboken homeless residents' representative, the Office of Constituent Services, at the Hudson County Alliance to End Homelessness planning meetings.
Oh yeah, this alliance also aims to fire Hoboken's first female African American in-house engineer, Kimberli Craft, so Ramos, Russo et. al., can award engineering consulting contracts to...? Any particular North Bergen pal?
City Engineer Kim Craft hired in May 2018 to coordinate the City's engineering projects. |
Getting rid of Craft to contract work from outside vendors is idiotic- not only will it cost Hoboken taxpayers more to bid out individual consultants, getting rid of that position undermines the City's original intent behind hiring an in-house engineer. Hoboken hired Craft to coordinate Hoboken's multiple ongoing engineering and construction projects, to keep them on schedule and increase efficiency and cost over runs.
Getting rid of this position makes no sense, unless Ramos, Russo, er. al, want to deal out engineering consulting contracts to political cronies.

In a statement from Council members Doyle, Jabbour and Cohen earlier today:
"It’s clear that as a result of hiring Kimberli Craft, her work as an in-house engineer has saved the City of Hoboken from having to hire outside engineers and contractors at a higher cost for work she is now able to do in-house. Councilmembers routinely seek to bring "in-house" various functions that often have been performed by outside consultants because it saves taxpayers money. Ironically, this proposal would actually squander $200,000 a year in savings of critical taxpayer dollars that this office has saved, which is inconsistent and defies all logic. "
