Spring Break on Sinatra Drive!

upper left: Spring Break on a Florida beach, upper right: proposal to "flatten the curve" with a public assembly space on SINATRA DRIVE, bottom: Kinsa "Fever Map"

When I heard this rumor yesterday, I didn't believe it. No way! How could any serious person want to close a road (Sinatra Drive) during a frigging pandemic to create a public assembly space. The proposed use: for "exercise" because (allegedly) Hoboken residents cannot find "social distance" on our streets or in one of Hoboken's many public parks.

Too f*cking bad, you big babies! Stay the f*ck home and bring your virus with you! That was my reaction to that rumor.

Alas, the rumor was true.  In fact this utterly clueless- and selfish- idea even has a petition.

The petition argues: "the cities of New York and Philadelphia are implementing similar street closures to provide space for exercise."  Really? Comparing Hoboken to New York City or Philly is like comparing one apple to an apple orchard.  A yuge apple orchard.

Do I need to say that Sinatra Drive is a vital artery for emergency vehicles to get quickly uptown/downtown?  An ambulance, for example.  Or a police car.   Why do I need to say that during a frigging pandemic that has stricken 40 Hoboken residents (as of yesterday)?

I'm actually frightened that intelligent persons are so disconnected from reality and spoiled that they would shut a road "to flatten the curve and create space for social distance" so they can do jumping jacks or whatever when they should stay the f*ck home even though it makes them sad.

Everybody: accept that your life is upended for now and NO, you CAN'T close down roads for recreational enjoyment. Need exercise? BICYCLE or WALK or JOG, then GO HOME.  The vast majority of residents are sucking it up, suffering in isolation because it's for the greater good. We don't want people congregating ANYWHERE, including a road.  Our health depends on yours.

THAT is flattening the curve.

Please: Mayor Bhalla and Chiefs Ferrante and Crimmins- ignore this.  I can hardly believe that in our current life and death circumstance- our hospital is scrambling for protective gear and ventilators- these adult babies are bothering our leaders with this.

Kinsa map showing Hudson County has "moderate" illness trending down, meaning widespread social distancing policy is making a difference. This does not mean that COVID-19 cases are declining but rather slowing down.

  1. There's a giant Bike and Pedestrian walkway on Observer hwy. It cost 8 million. Go use it. You can probably lay down on the ground naked there, lik the road and still not catch COVID19. These petitioners are really nutso.

  2. On Jim Vance's FBW newest petition... Open the waterfront to allow leg stretching...Here's their answer to how EMT and emergency vehicles can get down Sinatra :

" If Sinatra Drive does need to be used to respond to an emergency, it is easy to move a barricade or cones to the side."

So a Firetruck or Ambulance should stop, move cones and then drive along ? What about the people --- just run them over? Ron, Ron and Jim... Stop, just stop or Hoboken residents will make sure you don't get funding from us anymore.

FWIW the leaders of the FBW are all in that dangerous age group and should be a bit smarter here.

  4. This idiotic mentality is why people are not staying home and the NYC area is not going to see things get much better with respect to COVID-19 for a long while. The idiots that feel the need to go stretch their legs need to learn how to get in a workout in their apartments or how to just chill out and watch TV.
