Pandemic politicking: Councilman's rogue COVID-19 directive to seniors

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

On Saturday, March 14, the City of Hoboken, Office of Emergency Management(OEM), and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) opened up two COVID-19 hotlines for Hoboken residents.  One line is for general questions about COVID-19, and another line is a hotline for seniors in need of assistance.   The hotlines are being answered by trained members of Hoboken's CERT team.

On Sunday, without consulting the City of Hoboken, OEM or CERT,  First Ward Councilman Mike DeFusco went door-to-door in Marine View Plaza, distributing boxes of "Sterile Alcohol Prep Wipes."  On each box of wipes was a label: the two hotline numbers, noted "For COVID-19 questions"  then he added himself as an optional contact:

"...or email me directly at mike@mikedefusco.com"

Hoboken seniors: DO NOT EMAIL MIKE DEFUSCO IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE.

Hoboken residents: DO NOT EMAIL MIKE DEFUSCO FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT COVID-19.

Even a GLOBAL PANDEMIC can not stop this attention-craving jackass. DeFusco presents himself as an ALTERNATIVE to the City's COVID-19 mitigation professionals; his misleading information about where Hoboken seniors can turn to for help in this GLOBAL PANDEMIC may endanger their lives.

He also ignores the City's directives on mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in Hoboken flagrantly and publicly. On Saturday, the City of Hoboken closed gyms, health clubs, day cares and movie theaters, issuing this proactive COVID-19 mitigation directive:
"Our Health Department continues to recommend practicing social distancing (remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance of approximately 6 feet from others), washing and sanitizing your hands frequently, and to work from home if you are able."
That same day, Councilman DeFusco posted this:

Captain Oblivious

Marine View Plaza seniors will not be comforted to know that the councilman who knocked on their door and stood face-to-face with on Sunday, had "commuted to the gym because Hoboken's were closed"  then partied with a "garage band" the day before.

Reckless? Stupid? Both? The first ward councilman's dangerous behavior that puts our community at risk during a GLOBAL PANDEMIC should be remembered long after Hoboken life goes back to normal.

DeFusco's social media tells a different story than his door-to-door media

    1. He's the most tone deaf person to be elected since Beth Mason and Peter Cammarano held office here.

  5. DeFusco could be a Carrier. Reports say since his "Vibrant" age group are pretty able to survive (COVID-19) and the group he's delivering to ( largely older Hoboken residents and Seniors) the very fact he circumvented Hoboken's ban by "Commuting" to The Mercedes Club gym he could have brought (COVID-19) back to his constituents and contaminated Marineview. He lacks all humility and seems to be the new Beth Mason.

  7. So MDF is campaigning... that's not the email address listed for him on the city's website.
