Mayor: How YOU can HELP Main Street, First Responders & Medical Professionals!

City Paint and Hardware ROCKS!

Message from the Mayor on how you can help!

As we continue to do everything we can as a City to keep our residents safe, I’m so proud of the generosity and kindness of our residents during this crisis. Many residents and businesses have stepped up to help those in need, and many more have asked how they can give back. Below is a compilation of a few of the best ways you can lend a hand to various local organizations.

Help Main Street
As announced last week, the City has partnered with an organization called “Help Main Street” to provide a central resource for locating gift cards for Hoboken businesses. By visiting http://www.hobokennj.gov/giftcards you can find nearly 100 local small businesses that offer online gift cards in one location. Purchasing online gift cards is an immediate way for residents to provide financial assistance to our struggling businesses, especially those that are now temporarily closed. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the team at Help Main Street, including Nihal Meta for proactively reaching out to my office with the offer to provide this resource for Hoboken businesses.

Thank you also to Councilwoman Emily Jabbour for helping compile the comprehensive database and reaching out to include a number of Hoboken businesses listed on the website. If you’d like to add your business or know of a business with an online gift card that isn’t listed, you can do so on the website.

Hoboken Community Center food donations
Thanks to the hard work from our CERT Team, the City Council, the Hoboken Community Center, Hoboken Food Pantry, and Office of Emergency Management, Hoboken is now collecting aid distributing food for those who may have fallen on difficult times. The effects of COVID-19 are hitting some community members hard, especially those that may have lost income and could use additional food to feed their families.

Front Line Appreciation Group of Hoboken and Jersey City
Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in helping provide meals to first responders and medical professionals. To help with this process, residents formed FLAG (Front Line Appreciation Group) of Hoboken and Jersey City, to collect donations for meals from local businesses for those who keep us safe. It’s a great way to support our small businesses while also providing quality food for those who may not have time to cook lunch or dinner.

Hoboken Shelter and St. Matthew Trinity The Hoboken Shelter and St. Matthew Trinity both continue to provide regular services to our homeless populations. Volunteers from both organizations are collecting donations to help sustain their efforts.

Donating personal protective equipment (PPE) and masks
There have been so many local businesses and residents who are either donating their inventory or making their own masks for our first responders. I’m so impressed with everyone we’ve seen spending their time at home or at their business sewing beautiful masks that shared on social media. If you’re interested in making or donating masks or other PPE, please call our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) at 201-420-5620.

AWESOME!!!

As a reminder, we continue to put out regular updates to the community regarding our COVID-19 response. Please subscribe to our alerts at hobokennj.gov/alerts.

Thank you, again Hoboken. I know this is a very difficult time for everyone. I greatly appreciate everyone’s consideration for donating to these worthy causes. And, a final thank you to all of our incredible medical professionals, Hoboken Health Office, first responders, and all those on the front lines for protecting our City.

All the best and stay #HobokenStrong,

Ravi
