Tonight the Mayor of the City of Hoboken tells us where we've been, where we're at and where we're a going as a City, in his annual The State of the City.

This year, the venue for the speech has moved uptown to Hoboken's Mile Square Theater,  a move seeming to highlight the Renaissance going on in northwest Hoboken.

There's the business mini-boom, with the opening of Little City Books, Bwe CafĂ©, and Park and Bloom,  added to other thriving buniesses in the area including  Carpe Diem, San Giuseppe’s, the Biergarten, Gravity Vault, Hudson Table, and Bow Tie Cinema!  Then, of course the City recently broke ground on  the 5-acre Northwest Resiliency park, which will include  an ice skating rink, playground equipment for kids of all ages, a large athletic field, and flood infrastructure to hold up to 2 million gallons of rainwater... not to the mention that North End Redevelopment Plan for 30 blighted acres in North Hoboken is close to being finalized.  GA hears that the mayor will also reiterate his support for opening a 15th light rail station.

You know, the mayor will be talking about all sorts of stuff that you will miss it if you don't go! Like the City's historic agreement with SUEZ for $33 million in upgrades to our decomposing water mains. Phew, what a relief.

Note, word is that Mayor Bhalla won't glom credit for all of the great progress ongoing in the City, instead he'll share it with his partners in governing this City.  Let's see if Trumpy DeFusco fires off a press release rebuttal!

  1. I can't stand attending these because it becomes a long kiddie talent show for an opening act. Taxes are going up, Parking increasing, streets are filthy and garbage everywhere. Only 4 street department employees, no police foot patrol and understaffing... It's no time for a talent show.

  2. Hoboken has become a better place to live and do business in the last two years. While there is always room for improvement in any municipality to intentionally overstate the negatives is unfair and seriously undermines the credibility of those making the overblown claims.

Those who can do. Those who can't just bitch.

  3. Overblown? 7.8 Mil DEFICIT is a fact not an over statement

    1. Trump added $3 TRILLION to the national debt so far- ironic that the biggest whiners over Hoboken's deficit are some of the biggest Trump-humpers. Kinda like Ken Starr standing in the Senate and complaining that "Impeachment is hell."

Listen, the $7M shortfall would be the same under your boy, Mayor DeFusco, cause its coming from pension and health insurance cost hikes, and settling 6 Union contracts. Of course, it sucks.

    2. The bigger the debt the bigger NJ railyards is going to be. Just watch... Murphy wants the Transit project and if Bhalla wants to go anywhere in politics outside of this town, he will need to oblige. The deal will be taller towers, NYWW will be housed in that complex, Union dryDock will be condos and a park/ walkway, The Barrys will get the Muni garage site for the Monarch and everyone will be happy. Bhalla will run for congress, DeFusco, Jabbour and Giattino will duke it out for Mayor. Giattino already has Sen. Kenny lobbying fir her.
