2019 HudCo budget padded like an adolescent's training bra

Folks, a cursory look at 2019's Hudson County Adopted Budget is why Hoboken needs a Freeholder with balls and brains.

Yes, we know that we're getting reamed on County taxes due to some esoteric formulation. Do we know what we are paying for?  Is anybody in Hoboken looking through this budget?

Listen, GA has no expertise in this area. So, I am asking folks with budgeting expertise to step up and look through the County's 2019 Adopted Budget (below).

Like I said, I'm no expert, but... one line item jumped out at me: $593.5 Million appropriated for a new courthouse/administration building. That is a shitload of money for one building, unless it's gilded in 24K gold foil.  According to Freeholder Bill O'Dea, the estimated cost is only about half of that appropriation; last April, O'Dea told The Jersey Journal:
"the acquisition of the land needed to build the Justice Complex cost about $23 million and demolition of buildings on the site cost about $2 million. The total cost of the project was to be between $250 and $270 million. The changes to the design will boost the total price tag of the project to around $300 million, O’Dea said."

If the actual cost of the project is estimated at $300M- which sounds reasonable- why is the County appropriating nearly double?

That is a question, not an accusation. Why? Is there a reason? Cause we know that the Magic Funding Formula makes Hoboken taxpayers a major underwriter of this $0.59 BILLION courthouse.

HUDSON COUNTY 2019 ADOPTED BUDGET

HOBOKEN'S NEXT FREEHOLDER
Folks, Hoboken has got to stop rolling over and playing dead at the County.  We need a fiscal expert and advocate for Hoboken, not a card carrying member of the HudCo Boys Club.  I've already stated who I think would be perfect.  I am sure there are others.

Enough is enough. Hoboken taxpayers are facing municipal tax increases because of forces beyond the city's control: health insurance hikes, union contract settlements, pension plan increases, and decreased revenues:  parking, municipal court and construction permits.

A Freeholder who delivers for Hoboken by being a county budget watchdog has a chance to deliver for Hoboken.

  1. Stick, Stuck with Raia and other convicted VBM and Variance selling felons for decades... it's time we toss the Liberace style weave job wearing hack back to his mirrored ceiling bachelor pad that should be occupied by someone who doesn't already own multiple apartment buildings on Washington St as well as a NEW 2 family townhouse on Court St.

    1. It should be remembered that in the last mayoral election Frank Raia backed Councilman Michael DeFusco and not Freeholder Anthony Romano. Anon 12:37, I am not sure if your descriptions of real estate holdings and interior decor are true but certainly trying belittle someone by referencing their looks and making sexual innuendoes says more about you than the one you are attempting to defame.

    2. So when was "his mirrored ceiling bachelor pad " a "sexual innuendo? " That post sounds like a Pablo post...

  2. GA what are you hearing about Russo for freeholder and that he may be Stack and the mayor's choice? Could he be on the council and a freeholder at the same time?

    1. Yeah, I've been hearing all sorts of rumors. This morning someone told me that Stick had dropped out! The consensus seems to be that Russo is running off the line against Stick. I confirmed today that the mayor is staying out of it and not endorsing anyone. The person he would have supported has no interest in running. I really don't know what or who Stack wants. Should I call him? The last time I called Stack I asked him how come I hadn't gotten a birthday card. But seriously, how come he doesn't send them anymore? A Councilperson can run for freeholder, but cannot hold both offices at the same time.

  3. And then what? Jersey City gets to redevelop the land the old courthouses (yes plural) and the existing county buildings are on? I don't see the county doing anything with the historic courthouse or land the buildings are on. So does that asset just quietly go to a developer? Hmmm.
