UPDATED: Sorry folks, my "total number sent" line for the wards was incorrect. Thank you, numberscruncher.

  1. With a total voter pool of only 490 in the 1st Ward even a few fraudulent votes could change the outcome of the election.

When you consider that Councilman DeFusco embraced as part of his campaign and took some $9,500.00 in political contributions from Frank Raia who was along with a group of his crew were recently convicted and are now awaiting sentencing on multiple counts of voter fraud during the last Hoboken mayoral election it is very troubling to think how easy it would be to corrupt the November 5th elections.

  2. Under a brand-new state law, everyone who requested a VBM ballot in 2017 or 2018 automatically receives a ballot for every November general election unless they opt out.

That means that the ballots mailed this year have little relationship with whether those voters wish to vote by mail in this election (or intend to vote at all), so many, if not most, of those ballots are likely not to ever be returned.

I expect all the campaigns will try to contact voters receiving VBMs to get them to vote for their candidate. There's nothing wrong with that as long as voters aren't bribed, harassed or otherwise improperly influenced.

An unintended consequences of the new law is that if you get a VBM ballot in the mail you don't really want because you voted that way in 2017, you won't be able to vote on the machines - you'll have to vote either VBM or provisionally.

    1. I hope that the poll workers are educated about the rules, make them clear to the voters and make it easy to vote provisionally.

  4. Its been reported by a resident of Applied housing in the 1st Ward that the people receiving VBM ballots have already been called 4 times since last weekend by people asking, if they'd received their VBM ballot, had they returned it yet, and telling them they have to vote for Mike DeFusco. If the folks in Applied are being barraged by coercive calls, rest assured that the seniors are too. Hope the Feds are warming up the cell next to Puppy's.

    1. Will any go on the record? I understand the peril of retaliation they face. Even worse than a shitty Vision Media press release!

    2. Doubt it. They're already freaked out about getting so many calls.
