NB election tomorrow: 'Lyin Larry' versus 'President for Life' Sacco

DEAD SEA ELECTION
Tomorrow is Election Day in North Bergen!  It's a different world over there.  If Hoboken elections are a swamp teeming with predators, North Bergen's are The Dead Sea.

For instance: in Hoboken, the friend who once harvested your VBMs could be wearing a wire and/or serving you to the Feds in a plea bargain.

No such thing in The Dead Sea of North Bergen politics.

Nick Sacco has been Mayor there since 1991, re-elected every four years. If Sacco wins his mayoral election tomorrow against opponent Larry Wainstein, that'll be his 8th term in office. Hence, in 28 years Sacco has consolidated so much power as mayor, 32nd Legislative District Senator, (retired) BoE Superintendent, and defacto boss of Hudson County government that like the Dead Sea's saline environment, no other political life can survive there.

In GA's opinion, North Bergen's Nick Sacco is a walking, talking, living, breathing case for term limits.

Which is not to say that he has done a bad job; Sacco's probably done a very good job.  But, no matter how good, Hudson County is not a Banana Republic, and shouldn't have a "President-for-Life."  Same for Hoboken.  Two terms sounds about right: for Hoboken Mayor and for Hoboken City Council.

Anyway, tomorrow North Bergen is having another Dead Sea election. In an endless cable fusillade, we've been battered by "Lyin Larry" Wainstein ads; millions living in the tri-state area now know that 'Lyin' Larry' lives in a "3 million dollar mansion" and it's "not in North Bergen!"  Thanks to Sacco, Wainstein's 3-million dollar mansion has seared my retinas and haunts my dreams.  Tell me who would vote for a guy living in a 3 million dollar mansion!  Not me!

Poor 'Lyin Larry.'  What will his political epitaph read?

Lyin' Larry drank from the Dead Sea.

And that massive 'Lyin Larry' commercial ad buy... WHO paid?

Answer: Sacco's PAC. His North Bergen Democratic Municipal Committee reported an astonishing $510,890.64 aggregate contribution on it's 11-Day pre-election ELEC; Sacco's 48-Hour filings show massive in-kind expenditures on media.

So maybe a "Thank you" is owed to Hoboken Councilman Ruben Ramos, for underwriting those ads with his $500 contribution to Sacco's North Bergen Democratic Municipal Committee:

And another 'Thank you' to Hoboken Councilman Mike DeFusco for his $500 contribution to Sacco's 2021 NJ Senate campaign:

Now, you may say, "Big deal. Look how many Hoboken politicians contribute to Brian Stack."

Then I would reply, "Yeah, but Hoboken is in Stack's legislative district. Stack represents Hoboken.  It makes sense to dump money on Stack, because that's like fish food to a fish.  Nick Sacco is not our fish. He's swimming in someone else's tank."

So, why are two Hoboken Councilmen dumping money into North Bergen local elections?

Anyone care to guess?

  1. and a thank you to John Allen for playing a key role in recruiting and delivering campaign workers to North Bergen to help Nick Sacco’s team win re-election! https://newjerseyglobe.com/winners-losers/winners-losers-may-2019-edition/

    1. Ha! What bullshit! Thanks Kevin. Nick Sacco asked the mayor and John personally to send people. I guess they could have said, "no." But it may not have turned out well for Hoboken, when it comes to divvying up county loot. So COS John Allen took "eight to ten friends" to NB on Election Day. "Key role"? "Eight to ten friends?" I'll bet Sacco got hundreds of campaign workers from every municipality.

Tell you what I think about this tip in the Globe. SOMEBODY is pissed at the mayor for running a candidate in the 4th ward. SOMEBODY outside of Hoboken.

    2. Not trying to play gotcha, be a jerk, or call people out, but all sides are currently playing footsie with County for their own agenda. It would be nice if they all would focus on the City's (rather than County's) day to day governance and execution of key tasks (which are lacking), rather than the continued abdication of responsibility and leadership or collective "whataboutism". Just illustrates the lack of adults in the room.

    3. I wouldn't equate Council members from Hoboken sucking up to NB's Mayor Sacco for personal favors ($) to a mayor acting in the interest of his City. Very different. The first is "footsie" the second is political pragmatism. Like when Bhalla asked Sacco to sign Hoboken's letter to Gov. Murphy, in support of Hoboken's effort to save the Union Dry Dock waterfront site. Not footsie.

Sacco controls the County loot. Word has it Hoboken was threatened we'd lose millions of dollars of County $ as punishment if the Council approved its resolution condemning the proposed North Bergen power plant. POOF- our resolution disappeared. Union City's Council passed a similar resolution, POOF- one week later it was quietly rescinded. My point is, Sacco has the power to help or hurt Hoboken. I have not observed City Hall sucking up or playing footsie with Sacco or any other HudCo mayor for any personal political agenda- like $ to win an election. Maybe you can provide examples if you have seen that happen.

  2. Got to love how NBC just ran a story on potential voter fraud of N. Bergen city employees using N. Bergen addresses but living elsewhere. Things that make you go "Hmmmmmm........". They might replay the story later tonight or tomorrow so set your DVRs kids if you missed it.
