BREAKING: MAYOR BHALLA ANNOUNCES WARD COUNCIL SLATE!

Mayor Bhalla's Ward Council Slate! Whole lotta estrogen.
FOR RELEASE:

"To keep Hoboken moving forward, I need a council that will work collaboratively with me in the years ahead. That’s why I’m incredibly proud to announce a slate of qualified candidates who will bring new leadership and the fresh perspective we need on the Council: Migdalia Pagan-Milano, Nora Martínez DeBenedetto, Lisa Sprengle, Phil Cohen, and Cristin Cricco-Powell.

It’s fitting that our slate exemplifies the diversity in our City, and features four first time women candidates for public office. Migdalia, Nora, Lisa, Phil and Cristin aren’t career politicians – they’re regular people looking to make a positive difference for our community. I know that each of them have the character and integrity needed to serve in elected office.  "
-Ravi Bhalla,   Mayor

Ward 1: Migdalia Pagan-Milano is a lifelong resident who began working with the community as an assistant in the Cultural Affairs Department. She was instrumental in organizing Hoboken’s first Pride week. Currently, Migdalia works in the newly reconstituted Department of Constituent Affairs where she effectively finds solutions to residents’ day to day issues. Migdalia resides in the First Ward with her wife, Lisa.

Ward 2: Nora Martínez DeBenedetto is a teacher at Kaplan Cooperative Preschool and the coordinator of the City’s popular Art in the Park program. Nora has served as a volunteer organizer of the Hoboken Uptown Farmers Market for ten years, where she was one of the founding members. She is a lifelong resident of Hoboken and the Second Ward, where she lives with her husband and young son.

Ward 4: Lisa Sprengle is an attorney, accountant and a mom. Lisa moved to Hoboken in 2006 with her husband, Chris and her daughter, Sofia. Her active involvement in her community began, as with many Hoboken mom’s, with her work for the HSA of her daughter’s school. She is committed to using her private sector legal and business experience to help keep Hoboken moving forward.

Ward 5: Phil Cohen has been an engaged volunteer in Hoboken’s civic life for nearly two decades. Phil is a member of the Citizens Advisory Group for the transformative $230 million Rebuild by Design project, serves on the Hoboken Library’s Space Search Committee, and is Chair of the Hoboken Democratic Party. Phil and his wife Rebecca are proud to have raised their daughters, Madeline 23, and Anna 19, here in Hoboken.

Ward 6: Cristin Cricco Powell and her family have a long history of service to Hoboken. Cristin’s great-grandparents Robert and Raffaela Cricco helped build St. Ann’s Church, and her grandfather, Carl, Sr. and father, Carl, Jr. were much-loved surgeons in town. A lifelong resident, Cristin is an active supporter of the Hoboken Public Education Foundation and has a soon-to-be 4th grader and kindergartener at Brandt. Cristin has been an executive producer and director for 20 years of TV shows and documentaries.

Please join #TeamBhalla for a campaign kickoff event in support of our team on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:00 pm at 10th and Willow Bar and Grill (935 Willow Avenue)

    1. That's funny. I never heard that in 2015 when Team Zimmer didn't run a 3rd Ward candidate, either. The Zimmer slate was Defusco (1), Fisher (2), Wefer (4), Cunningham (5) and Giattino (6), with Mike Russo unopposed. If I had to guess it's the same issue as 2015: decisions about allocation of resources and manpower. Polling showed 3 wards in particular where incumbents are weak. I think focusing limited resources in those wards is a wise decision. But I'd hate to deprive the whackos on the other Team their "Ravi-Russo" conspiracy theories!

    2. GA - let the conspiracy nuts wear their tin foil hats in peace. Not like they have anything else to do in their lives besides stew in the misery and discontent of their own making.
