"Congratulations on this accomplishment."

Tonight Hoboken District Superintendent Christine Johnson will be announcing the great news: Hoboken District Schools have scored "at least 80% of the weighted indicators in each of the five areas of the NJ-QSAC review process."
According to the NJDOE's Robert Bumpus, Assistant Commissioner, Division of Field Services this means the Hoboken District will be designated as "high performing" and will be recommend to the State Board of Education that "the district be certified as providing a thorough and efficient system of education for a period of three years or until the next QSAC review."
That is great news for the Mile Square, with a ripple effect in Hoboken politics. Because for some reason, Hoboken's QSAC scores have been used by opponents of reform to trash the Hoboken District performance under reform management. School Board candidates supported by Frank Raia and Ruben Ramos used past QSACs to bash schools under reform leadership. Really awful because the kids heard it all.
To the contrary, district QSACs have steadily improved since the cleansing of the Hoboken district started by Kids First, and continued by every other reform board majority up until the present. Reform has brought real oversight, no more grifting from education funds, and extremely competent hires, such as the superb Dr. Christine Johnson. However, this year Hoboken has broken through on all 5 review areas, as follows:

INSTRUCTION AND PROGRAM 81%
FISCAL MANAGEMENT 96%
GOVERNANCE 86%
OPERATIONS 100%
PERSONNEL 100%
These scores validate the tremendous effort undertaken by dedicated teachers, administrators, Dr. Johnson, and the BoE. Keep going people, take our district studentss higher and higher!
In the meantime, GA had wondered how Dark Side flack, former Deputy Superintendent Anthony Petrosino would handle this news. Many of you know that Petro has been beating district QSACs like a drum ever since he was bounced out of Hoboken by Kids First, calling the district "failing" ad-nauseum.
So, now that our schools were acknowledged as "high-performing" by the state, would Petro show some class and say "Congratulations!"? Would he ignore the district's achievement altogether? Or would he tell you that your eyes are lying: in other words, FAKE NEWS.
Well... here it is. Petro's chosen the "Fake News" route: "Why the New QSAC Score is really NOT an Improvement!"
What a miserable toad!
That's great news for Hoboken families! As for Petro - he thankfully is in Hoboken's rearview mirror - as is Pupie Raia.
ReplyDeleteWhile there is merit in remembering our not so great political past so that we don't repeat it, it is far more important to celebrate the successes of the present and our path to further success in tbe future.
So congrats to all those whose hard work turned our schools (and our City) around. And let's remember the job isn't finished yet. We need to stay vigilant and make sure we don't stray and stay on the right track.
Bitterness could eventually become a leading cause of death in Hoboken. Never seen such grudge nursing.
ReplyDeleteBut now that the butthurts have fallen in line with the bajardis, maybe they’ll find a place in their hearts for Curious Gal too. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Here’s to a big November retirement party.
