Jen trying to equate that Easterseals should pay the same rent as Hoboken Charter. Easterseals pays $1. Her point is that Easterseals doesn't help the homeless. She called to check. So either Hoboken charter should pay the same $1 or visa versa.
Yikes. Apparently, this was all about a lease renewal for Hoboken Charter's space at the Multi-Service Center. Currently, Hoboken Charter leases 1,587 sq ft: a large room (1128 sf), a back office (109 sf), and a kids play area (350 sf). The school had already signed the lease; it just needed Council approval.
What does any of that have to do with Easterseals?
Folks, you've got to hear this shit-show with your own two ears. Giattino wanted to postpone the Hoboken Charter lease renewal, suggesting the charter school should have a $1 lease if Easterseals has a $1 lease... then Giattino attacked the merits of giving Easterseals the $1 lease "because they are part of Hoboken's Homelessness Initiative but they do not help the homeless... they only help disabled and elderly homeless" all the while Tiffanie Fisher can be heard egging her on.
Would Giattino and Fisher really pander to Charter parents by pitting Hoboken Charter against a charity that provides services for the disabled? They did.
How lousy is that?
Giattino and Fisher know that Easterseals prevents homelessness in the most vulnerable populations-- the disabled and elderly, by providing job training.

A source summed up this ugly exchange:
"Jen apparently does not understand the distinction between a charity and a non profit. She took issue with the city charging rent to Hoboken charter while it only charges Easterseals $1 a year. Hoboken charter is a non-profit school that generates self-sustaining revenue unlike Easterseals which provides charitable services to individuals with disabilities and seniors using donations. She also apparently does not understand that Easterseals provides job training and not housing for the homeless. She's poorly informed and filled with malice. Out of spite she voted against the renewal of Hoboken charters rent at the multi service center."Jen Giattino has me totally confused: how can a person capable of niceness act so damned mean?
Looks like those Easter Seals face-punchers got what’s coming to them!
ReplyDeleteWhat evidence does she provide and who cares what segment of the homeless population they cater to. There are other groups that helps other homeless, this is a stupid hill for her to die on, but it sounds like it jibes with her entire groups lame attempts to criticize so maybe not a big suprise.
ReplyDelete1) Vanessa (on the phone) was laughing. Not Tiffany.
ReplyDelete2) You are conflating points. The purpose of $1 rent grant to Easter Seals was b/c they were purported to help with homeless. That's why the council originally approved the lease. Now that's it's been raised that Easter Seal's mission doesn't include helping people who are homeless, feels like council was duped.
Leslie-
Delete1) I know that it was Vanessa laughing, I did not say it was Tiffanie. No, I did not know that Vanessa was on the phone, as she was off-camera. How do you know she was on her phone when she was off-camera?
2) Tiffanie was interjecting remarks while Jen spoke- one was to the effect of "they pay nothing." Those remarks were audible.
3) WRONG. A few council members spoke in opposition of the lease but eventually voted for it under pressure. The $1 rent was not a "grant" but written into the developer agreement when the project was approved by the ZBA. I should know-- I voted on the application when I seved as a zoning board commissioner. The 1,000 sf. room was 'donated' to the City for use for a non-profit. However, it sat empty for years, used as a storage closet. When Easterseals lost its lease in Jersey City, the City offered them the space. The mission of Easterseals was always to offer employment services for adults with special needs and training for seniors looking to reenter the workforce. The services offered by the charity PREVENT vulnerable populations from becoming homeless, one facet of the "Hoboken Homelessness Initiative."

"We're making sure that people do not end up becoming homeless in the first place," Bhalla said.

Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “Our efforts are multi-faceted, addressing the root causes of homelessness. Not only are we getting folks off the street, but we are equipping them with the tools necessary to avoid falling back into homelessness.”
"Leslie" must be thinking "there goes Lyin' Nancy again. I'm so happy see DawnGone," but I'm frustrated because I desperately want to dominate the Hoboken political world like a Pink_Nova. It's's just so frustrating that so many people see me as nasty and outright dumb because of Lyin' Nancy's stories.
Delete"She's poorly informed and filled with malice" sums up the increasing desperation of Giattino's wrong headed rhetoric as the November elections draw closer.
ReplyDeleteThankfully more stable minds on the City Council prevailed.
What a vile piece of work those two are.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you want to bet that their primary consideration is to force a charity to pay rent (more than a $1) to drive up revenues for the city so they can shave a buck or two a year off their tax bills. They truly are that evil to do such a thing.
