Hoboken rumor mill

In a mile square city crackling with hyper-partisan political energy, lulls happen. "Lulls" are times between elections and/or political controversies.  But you know, the energy has to go somewhere. As Isaac Newton put it:

Got that?  Newton's First Law of Motion.  As it applies to Hoboken's polito-sphere, the energy of political partisans to win votes or public opinion does not extinguish during lulls, it takes new shape(s).

Fake news.  A rumor.  A rumor about fake news.  Fake news about a rumor. It's a peculiar masturbatory indulgence among political partisans to sustain partisan energy until the lull subsides into election season and/or (real) controversy.

This is how Hoboken rolls. And the Hoboken rumor mill, benign and malevolent, has been working overtime since the election of Ravi Bhalla.

Would it have been different had Mike DeFusco won?  Probably not. Mayor DeFusco's PR firm would have a larger footprint in Hoboken public affairs, steering political messaging as they once did for client Councilwoman Beth Mason. That's Hoboken.

Here's my favorite persistent rumor:

RUMOR: Bhalla wants to shiv Annette Chapparo so he can grab her Assembly seat...
FACT: Sources say that (no disrespect to Assembly persons) "being mayor of Hoboken is a bigger job than Assembly..." and "no way would Bhalla quit the job he loves, mayor of Hoboken, to run for Assembly."

You know, GA's had an epiphany of sorts about the Hoboken rumor mill: no one actually gives a shit, it's a circle jerk.  If Newton's Law applies to Hoboken politics, there must be a better way to channel  energy until it's needed for the next election or real controversy.

  1. Yeah. I’m officially the #4 obsession of a dead blog. Bragging-wise it’s not much of a conversation starter. It would have to be a lower number or a blog that wasn’t dead.

It does feel like we keep it on life support by giving it notice. Serves no useful purpose to do so.

LOL...a perfect description, everyone always assumed they were wankers.
