Hoboken's Dr.Christine Johnson, 2019 WINNER of NJEFP's Outstanding Partner-Superintendent

GA writes about dysfunction at City Hall... anybody in the mood to hear great news about a Hoboken official who is hitting out of the park-- working collaboratively with her board members, and accomplishing great things in partnership with a fantastic non-profit?

Hmmmmm?

Well here it is: Hoboken School District Superintendent Dr. Christine Johnson has won the New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership's (NJEFP) 2019 Outstanding Partner – Superintendent Award!

Of course, the other half of the partnership is our phenomenal Hoboken Public Education Foundation, who nominated Dr. Johnson for this award.

Dr. Johnson has been working collaboratively with the HPEF from the get-go, on identifying district needs; how HPEF monies can best serve the district student population; on improving facilities, health and wellness and essential technology for Hoboken district students, general and special education populations.

Dr. Johnson and the HPEF are a model not only for NJ districts, but for the nation, on how an impassioned parent-run, non-profit organization can marshal private funding to team up with a talented district Superintendent to elevate their district schools, build a stronger school community and improve the quality of public education through private funding.

Indeed, Dr. Johnson has steered HPEF's considerable private fundraising into innovative programs, facilities improvements and many other needs for general and special education student populations.

This is the HPEF's announcement of this academic year's initiatives funded by the $200,000+ raised last year, being implemented by the Dr. Johnson in the Hoboken district:

Maybe the Board of Education's counterpart at City Hall, the City Council, can learn something here,  about what can be accomplished when the needs of stakeholders come first, before everything and everyone else, and how much energy is drained from perpetual political combat.

Congratulations, Dr. Johnson.  Thanks to you, the Hoboken Board of education, and the great teachers of the Hoboken school district the future is bright. And, if I had to do it all over again, I would still choose the Hoboken Public School system over all other options.

  1. That's great. Great for her even better for the city. Also nice to read a story without a side order of crazy.

  2. Very promising! Glad we have good people and resources helping the improvement and progression of our schools. With Hoboken predominantly being a bedroom community, it's a real challenge to the attention, focus and efforts needed for our public educational system.
