I kid you not! Oh my goodness... this is hilarious. I mean it.
2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher has gotten 5 of her council colleagues to sign a letter to NIXLE, claiming that Hoboken Mayor Bhalla violated their Terms of Service, therefore Hoboken's NIXLE service should be terminated unless the Mayor... um... stops? (GA has filed an OPRA for all the City-NIXLE communications, so will post all once they are returned.)
As you may know, NIXLE is the third party service that the City uses to alert the 50,000+ residents of local emergencies: weather, traffic, police, water main breaks, and so on. It also has a 'community' function to notify residents on governance matters of public interest and public concern.
So, why is Tiffanie Fisher threatening to "terminate" this vital communication tool for the residents of the City of Hoboken?
About three weeks ago, Mayor Bhalla sent out a NIXLE, to notify the community that the staff in his office are no longer being threatened with extinction-- a reasonable message given that his aides respond to emergencies and crises 24/7 while the City Council members are deep in REM sleep. Believe it or not, the Hoboken community has come to appreciate the responsiveness and compassion shown by the Mayor's staff; many of whom heard that these aides were endangered by the council's vindictive ordinance. Therefore, City Hall was obliged to notify concerned residents that the council failed to override the mayor's veto. The informative NIXLE read in part:
Um... so? What is factually wrong? NOTHING. Why does Fisher want to keep the 50,000 residents of Hoboken in the dark about this veto and override?
I know.... she only wants the public to read this dreck she puts on her site web de merde de cheval
Oy vey. |
Perhaps the mayor is not sending out enough NIXLEs. The Hoboken community should be aware of how this Council is preoccupied with political shenanigans not governing; how their tax dollars have been wasted-- such as forcing the JIF to hire a criminal defense attorney after they falsely accused City Hall of "theft of tax dollars."
Hey Mayor, how about it? A NIXLE a day keeps council- corruption away.
GA asks you folks to read the whole Nixle and get back to me:
- Are the facts true? (Yes)
- Is it a matter of public interest and public concern if the Mayor's Office loses an Aide? (Yes)
- Would losing a mayoral aide impact the Administration's ability to manage City operations, Council needs, and emergencies simultaneously? (Yes)
So why wouldn't this matter merit a communication to residents? Why shouldnt our neighbors know what's happening?
If Fisher weren't ashamed of her actions she wouldn't care.
Believe it or not, there's an actual piece of legislation tied to this Toddlers'-Tantrum. This was voted on by all Council members except Jim Doyle, Emily Jabbour and Mike Russo. Really, Vanessa?
Stay tuned for the actual (WAAAAAAAH) communications with Nixle....
I wonder if this is the handiwork of paid political operative Roman Bricejardi. Sounds like one of his stunts. More reason for transparency's sake that Tiffanie and Jen come clean and list Roman Bricejardi on their ELEC forms.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't worry about that site so long as he's writing 100% of the comments. if that changes, you can give it another look.
DeleteAs someone who has been trying to get out of NIXLE since I moved I am still getting messages from Hudson and Somerset Co's. All of them revolve around crime, infrastructure and weather from public safety and or schools. It is not meant for any type political activity. If Ravi used it this way it would a severe abuse of something that is clearly to be non-partisan.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck in your new home! We'll agree to disagree on this one, for the reasons thar I mentioned above.
Deletethe problem isn't the nixle alert, it is the CC members who don't want voters knowing what they are up to at CC meetings.
DeleteWhy, does Nixle crowd out the voices in your head you prefer to listen to?
DeleteReceive alerts for: Severe weather, criminal activities, severe traffic, missing persons, local events. Nowhere does it say political activities. http://www.nixle.com/
ReplyDeleteHoboken Nixle has BOTH advisories (as you listed) AND community information including municipal and community meetings, City announcements, government events, etc.: https://local.nixle.com/city/nj/hoboken/. Please don't spam.
DeleteNixel let's you choose what kind of alerts you want to receive. If you choose to receive only emergency alerts that's all you'll get. I have always chosen to get only emergencies so I have never received anything remotely political, from Dawn or Ravi.
DeleteThe line between political and city communications is gray - some Mayor's use the "power of incumbency" more aggressively than others.
The bottom is that the Mayor's office not only has far more legal authority but is also a far more effective bully pulpit than a Council position.
No matter how many whiny resolutions the council passes trying to diminish the Mayor's authority, which is established by state law not by the City council, that's not going to change.
I get that its upsetting to the losers in the last election that Bhalla won and they lost, but the fact remains that elections have consequences. The voters chose Bhalla, and he's the mayor, with all the power and prestige that the office provides.
More than a year has past. It's time to accept that and get back to doing the peoples' business. That's what pretty much all the voters want - no matter who they voted for in 2017.
Well they didn't vote for 4th place Jen so I wish she and the rest of her cast of characters would grow the heck up already. Gawd, can you imagine how screwed up things would be if someone as childish as her were mayor? It would be like having Trump as mayor. Non-stop petulant temper tantrums with Tiff cheering her on. We got very lucky.
DeleteSorry Nancy the word politics is not mentioned . Community events I have gotten are things like the Arts & Music festival or similar activities in Somerset Co. I can send you all my NIXLE messages and I have several hundred. Not one has ever mentioned a political event, not even a Council meeting. These are my last 10: Somerset safety: Griggstown Cswy open, Blackwells Rd in now open, Canal rd is closed, avoid Dukes Pkwy, Franklin Blvd is closed, Franklin (Easton Ave) is closed, Water dept repairing a break, water leak repaired on Worlds Fair Dr, Sewage Auth cleaning, Rte 27 is now open, Skillman Ln closed Dpw. Show me on their website where the word political is mentioned or correct your blog post.
ReplyDeleteScott- I posted Hoboken's Nixle link for you to see that this City posts GOVERNMENT information.."Politics" is your word. I have also PMed you (on Facebook) a screenshot from the City's Nixle. Take a look. Majority are communications from City Hall about public matters (announcements, meetings, State of the City address). As I mentioned above, the public announcement of the veto override was a matter of public concern to the residents of Hoboken, letting them know that SERVICES provided by his staff would be maintained at the same level. The announcement was not political spin, just fact. You can disagree if you like. Thank you for your concern, Scott.
