Karen Nason, Hoboken chanteuse with the out-sized heart (to match her out-sized personality) will be singing that big heart out for the non-profit "Because I'm a Girl" at world-famous Manhattan cabaret, dont tell mama, next Saturday night!
Yep, it's true. The cabaret dont tell mama is located on renowned Restaurant Row in the heart of New York’s theater district, and is "one-of-a-kind – a veritable nightlife mall with four individual spaces: a piano bar, a restaurant and 2 separate cabaret showrooms: a cineplex of cabaret! Countless luminaries such as Liza Minnelli, Paul Newman, Joan Rivers, Bette Midler, Rosie O’Donnell, Chita Rivera, Kathy Griffin, Audra MacDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, Mario Cantone, & Cuba Gooding Jr. have performed there, to name but a few!"
And now, Hoboken luminary Karen Nason!
As usual, she is donating all proceeds from this performance to charity. Karen is all about giving back. This time, she picked a charity (a "movement")"dedicated to transform power relations so girls everywhere can learn, lead, decide, and thrive."
- LEARN All girls have the right to quality, safe education and access to lifelong learning. An educated girl is more likely to marry later and have fewer, healthier children. She has a better chance of staying healthy herself.
- LEAD All girls and young women have the right to take part fully in the political life of their community and country. We’ll support and empower young female leaders to drive social, economic, and political change.
- DECIDE All girls have a right to decide if and when to marry or start a family. Ensuring girls are able to make decisions about their futures is fundamental to achieving gender equality.
- THRIVE Girls have a right to reach their full potential and achieve their personal ambitions. To do this, they must be able to live free from violence and discrimination and have equal economic opportunities.
So people, GA hopes you can spend a night out, next Saturday, to hear incredibly talented Hoboken chanteuse Karen Nason, sing for GIRLS and a better life for them. As for a better life for Hoboken...
When is Hoboken going to make this gal our Night Mayor? It's clear by now- especially after the HUB Sexy Time debacle- that the Mile Square needs one.
What is a Night mayor? He/she is a liaison between the Hoboken community, bars/discos and City Hall. Here's an example of how you might interface with him/her. Let's say you live near a bar, and every weekend morning are greeted by a pile of vomit or unsightly cans and bottles. Or you wake up to drunken revelry too often. Who are you gonna call?
The Night Mayor. As a liaison between bars/nightlife establishments and Hoboken residents, he/she can resolve issues before they escalate to calling law enforcement, or filing a complaint that will languish in municipal court. A Night Mayor keeps bars in check and handles disputes. If we had one, it may have prevented HUB's Sexy Time. (I wish we had one when I lived on First and River-- noise, bottles, urination-- don't get me started!) The concept is working incredibly well in NYC. Is there a more qualified candidate in the City of Hoboken than former NYC jazz club/bar owner Karen Nason? Doubt it!
