Fisher questions Community Development Director Chris Brown's "qualifications" for promotion

Mayor Bhalla promoted Principal Planner for the City of Hoboken, Chris Brown, to replace Brandy Forbes

"...I want to better understand Chris’ qualifications to lead economic development, redevelopment negotiations and strategic planning for Hoboken.”
-2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher

GA could not believe what I read today on Hudson County View.  2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher publicly questioned the "qualifications" of Hoboken's Principal Planner, Chris Brown's promotion to replace Brandi Forbes as Hoboken's Community Development Director.

Publicly. Why?

Brown has served as Hoboken's Principal Planner under Forbes for 7 years and 5 months. Why would his fitness to "lead economic development, redevelopment negotiations and strategic planning for Hoboken" be questioned by Fisher now?  After 7 years and 5 months of impeccable service, what makes this man unqualified for a promotion?  His complexion? A little too dark? Unelectable?  Bad in math?

How dare this nitwit undermine public confidence in Christopher Brown's  competence.

Brown's resume is on LinkedIn; City Hall must have one too.  She could have met with him privately. Musing in the press whether the man merits a promotion is downright vile.

I really have to wonder what about this longtime Hoboken employee serving in a senior level position makes a one question his "qualifications" for a promotion, because his resume and credentials and EXPERIENCE earned the confidence of his peers and the mayor.  I found his resume in about 5 seconds:

So, Fisher questioned the qualifications of Christopher Brown PP, AICP, LEED-GA, who came to Hoboken City Hall in 2011, but not those of  Vijay Chaudhuri, who came to work for Mayor Zimmer in 2015.  According to Hudson County View:

Fisher "feels" that Vijay 'brings a lot of experience to the role"-- but not Christopher Brown.  And I "feel" that Fisher is an idiot.

Vijay certainly is highly qualified and experienced and talented-- like Chris Brown.

In conclusion, I guess we have to take it from where it comes.

The same person who questions Brown's "qualifications" for a promotion is the same person who thought Councilman DeFusco was more qualified than Jim Doyle to serve on the Planning Board.

Oh, yes... GA heard about a backroom deal to replace Planning Commissioner Mike DeFusco with....

Stay tuned.

  1. I heard she was saying it privately even before the decision was made. I don't think its because she's a racist. It's just because she's Tiffanie who is a better lawyer than the lawyers, a better planner than the Planners, etc. She said the same thing about Ryan Sharpe.

  2. Double- and triple-checking the alifications-quay of ack-blays is pretty standard in my administration. That way we appear to have done our due diligence before shit-canning their resumes as we planned to do in the first place.

I'm happy to see the Tiffanatrix falling in line with my policies. As I like to say, the only good democrat is a fake democrat. Tippy the Alt-Right Councilbabe is a real good democrat. Wish there more like her!

    1. What is wrong with you, HH? First it's Mexicans, then it's Muslims, then it's caravans... Listen, the PUBLIC questioning of the "qualifications" to promote a 7 1/2 year high-level employee working under Brandy Forbes may not have anything to do with his race at all. It is a question. Absent any other explanation for questioning this man's ability to "lead" and denying him a promotion- a guy with his resume and impeccable record of Hoboken service- it is a reasonable question to ask.

    2. Bingo! Mexicans, Muslims, Caravans, ack-blays. How can anyone say I discriminate? They're all totally equal in my book!

    1. At Fisher's request I''ve deleted the above comment. I disagree that it is "libelous" for reasons I explained to her, but I honor takedown/retraction requests. Here is the remainder of the above deleted comment (I can't edit comments):

"Hey Tiff - let's see your resume for what qualifies you for council. Community organizing? Nope. Consensus building? Nope. Serving the public? Nope. Not being Peter Biancamano? Yes! That's the only qualification you possess."

    2. Fisher reads your blog? That's a surprise. I thought she'd be too busy over in horse shit land. Plus, it's not libel when it's true.

  4. City Hall source: Jen Giattino pulled Chris Brown's appointment off the agenda.

  5. That would be a truly dumb move, which, of course, given the track record of the people involved, makes it more likely to be true.

Delaying the vote until the next meeting to give council members a chance to interview Chris either individually or, more appropriately, publicly as a body, would be OK.

If they refuse to take a vote beyond that, on a candidate they are completely familiar with since he's been at his job for almost 8 years - longer than most of them - they become the Republicans with Merrick Garland. Not a place I'd want to be if I were them, especially if I was facing re-election in November.

    1. Oh, c'mon. He's been Hoboken's Principal Planner for 8 years! They've all worked WITH him, know his character, his work ethic and his Hoboken experience. Either they think he is "qualified" to handle the responsibilities-- or not. Working side by side with him for years is far more substantive than an "interview." Like I wrote today, this is another example of playing shadow mayor. Bhalla has the statutory right to select Brandy's successor, and the Council has the statutory right to vote on the appointee. He is not a newbie. If council members have substantive reasons why Brown is unsuited for this promotion, let them put it on the public record.

  6. Bunch of racists. The black man is good enough to be a Director's subordinate for 8 years but not good enough to lead. Ask Ms. Fischer who questions his qualifications. What does Ms. Falco think?

  7. Is there a back story here? Is this another personal vendetta by Tiffanie Fisher? Apparently, she hated Gary Holtzman's wife and so she did what she does best, she got her revenge and booted Gary off the Planning Board. Tiffanie better explain her doubts in clear terms. Chris Brown is a college-educated professional with a graduate degree in his field and 7 years of work experience under the boss whose job he would take over. Tiffanie Fisher, on the other hand, supported Jen G, a candidate for Mayor who lacked a college degree and would have overseen all of Hoboken's municipal policies, including economic development. I hate to be snotty but it doesn't add up.

    1. Whatever. Considering she quit her job when her company hired a CEO from the outside instead of promoting Tiffanie from within, you'd think she'd be more sympathetic to the idea of promoting from within. If she didnt get promoted, nobody can. Guess her company questioned her qualifications to lead.

    2. Her worst fear is a competent person in a position of authority who she cannot control. That is why she was fine w/ Jen but cannot stand Ravi.

  8. This brings back feelings of deja vu.

Back in 2012, Mayor Zimmer appointed Solomon Steplight to be the City's new Finance Director. Prior to the public announcement, as was her standard practice, Dawn called Councilmembers to give them a heads up and ask fir their support.

Councilwoman Marsh was livid that Zimmer did not appoint the person prefered by Ms. Marsh (and presumably by her mentor Michael Lenz). Oddly, the person Marsh demanded had not even applied for the job, and Dawn had never even heard of him. Apparently a plan was afoot to have Peter Cunningham advocate for this person to Dawn, but Peter hadn't done so.

Dawn pointed to Mr. Steplight's obvious qualifications and asked Carol to consider supporting him. Carol responded that she just might quit the Council. A couple of days later she did just that.

Coincidentally, Mr. Steplight, like Mr. Brown, was a highly qualified African American man, though I don't think that was the reason for Ms. Marsh's response or Ms. Fisher's.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the analogy will continue to play out and Ms. Fisher will quit the council!
