Exclusive: "New Jersey Democracy in Action" REVEALED

DARK MONEY IN HOBOKEN ELECTION
GA warned you last August.

That's when a shadowy entity titled, "New Jersey Democracy in Action" handed out literature at Mike DeFusco's Pier 13 fundraiser.   John Heinis reported  it first--  their mission statement claimed the group advocated for "fair and open elections in the state to promote the values of equality justice reform, transparency and opportunity."

New Jersey Democracy in Action is anything but transparent.

There is no record of them registering with NJ-Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ-ELEC) as either a PAC, IE or political committee while they pump dark money into our November 6 election.  New Jersey Democracy in Action  is the sponsor of "Vote Yes Hoboken"- a social media and direct mail campaign coincidentally synced with Mike DeFusco's  own lavish "Vote Yes" campaign.

Yesterday, "New Jersey Democracy in Action" blanketed Hoboken with these:

The mailers are marked "Paid for by New Jersey Democracy in Action, P.O. Box 201, Hackensack N.J. 07601."

A P.O. Box, huh.   No ELEC records.  Entities that pump dark money into local elections are allergic to sunlight.  Like rats, they scurry into places that are not easy to find.

So, what is New Jersey Democracy in Action and who is behind it, why are they pumping dark money into Hoboken's election?

New Jersey Democracy in Action EXPOSED
New Jersey Democracy in Action  is a 501(c)4  non-profit corporation registered by Victor Mendez of Hackensack on August 14, 2018.

The 5011(c) 4's Board of Trustees are Roosevelt Donat (Newark), Victor Mendez (Hackensack), Lavon Jason Smith (Hoboken), and Sharif Elsaid (Jersey City).

Interesting. New Jersey Democracy in Action has registered as a "social welfare" organization.

According to the  Internal Revenue Service:

A social welfare organization will jeopardize its exemption under Code section 501(c)(4) if it ceases to operate primarily to further social welfare purposes. In addition, a tax-exempt organization that does not file a required annual return or notice for three consecutive years automatically loses its tax-exempt status.

Activities that do not further social welfare purposes, and thus may jeopardize an organization's tax-exempt status if they become the organization's primary activities, include:

  • Social activity
  • Political activity
  • Inurement of net earnings
  • Operating for the benefit of private individuals
  • Business activity (including providing commercial-type insurance)

Well! This should get interesting! Save your mailers, everyone... and the slew of crap that is sure to rain down upon you from your mailbox, social media accounts, and television.

And remember, if DARK MONEY wants you to vote "YES" to bring back run-offs that tells you everything you need to know about their nefarious intent.

GA urges you-all to vote " NO" on Municipal Question No. 1.

  2. Those of us who remember the very real and valid reasons why Hobokeners went to the polls and voted to end runoff elections here in our city also know that those same reasons still exist today.

    I will vote NO. Again

  3. The biggest loud mouthed proponent of the dark age Runoff elections, DeFusco, is saying on his website that the runoff elections, (the first Tuesday after the first Monday in December), would not interfere with anyone's holiday season.

Unless you're Jewish, in which case, in 2018, it would be December 4th, two days into the eight day Hanukkah celebration.

    What a schmuck.
