Notorious "Donut Hole" ordinance is back- and it's DEFECTIVE

"Donut Hole" ordinance sponsor Mike DeFusco to produce "documents to follow" with  no time for Public/Council review

Something appears to be missing from Councilman Mike DeFusco's NEW and IMPROVED iteration of the controversial 'donut hole' ordinanceit's back and up for First Reading on Wednesday.

What's missing?

EVERYTHING. The ordinance is submitted as "additions noted in underline, deletions noted in strike through".

Guess what?

NOTHING has been added or deleted to Chapter 196 of the Code of the City of Hoboken entitled "Zoning."

Noted on the Ordinance: "Documents to Follow"

Really. When will they follow? DeFusco has had plenty of time to sort out changes to the ordinance vetoed last month by Mayor Bhalla, so has no excuse for submitting a deficient ordinance.

In other words, this shady maneuver--  "documents to follow" will be provided right before or at the live meeting, so that Council members and the PUBLIC are DENIED an opportunity to review the zoning changes properly and hear from constituents prior to Wednesday's vote!

Note, this ordinance is under particular public scrutiny (the subject of a mayoral veto and a citizen's ethics complaint) since it was revealed that its sponsor, Planning Board Commissioner Mike DeFusco has taken campaign donations from Planning Board Applicants, some of whom may stand to benefit from the increased lot coverage DeFusco tried to legislate.

If this deficient ordinance is not pulled from the agenda, every Council person should vote "NO" until the public has had an opportunity to review and understand the changes that will effect them,  their neighbors and the City of Hoboken going forward.

Let the public have an opportunity to review the Zoning changes. This is not a rabbit to be pulled out of a hat.

'NEW' DONUT-MUNCH ORDINANCE

  1. There is only a placeholder in the packet for DeFusco's second assault on the donut. Under the council by-laws, if it is not in by Thursday at 4PM before council mtg, it should not be allowed to be heard. How can the public assess something if it is sprung on them at last minute?

    1. DeFusco and his allies would prefer the public not know what mischief they are up to. They would rather sell out the town to the developers in secret.

  2. DeFusco appears to be fighting very hard for this developer giveaway. Is he sending them a signal that they can buy his influence in the future ?
