Justice for Lizaida, 8 years later

On December 6, 2010, GA wrote a piece called Justice for Lizaida.  It was a feminist lament; my analysis of 2010's 4th ward Special Election showed pay inequity between male and female vote-farmers! Yes, not all vote harvesters were created equal.

Of the (3) top VBM 'Bearers' (person who takes the VBM from the voter to a mailbox or directly to the Board of Elections), two were male, and one was Lizaida Camis(a).
  • (Male No.1) was paid $1,200 at 'various times' and was the Bearer for 36 VBMs.
  • (Male No.2) was paid $1,000 at 'various times' and was the Bearer for 85 VBMs
  •  Lizaida Camis(a) was paid $900 at 'various times' and was the Bearer for 92 VBMs
Boy, girlfriend worked it hard, harder than the guys-- but got paid far less per ballot than they did!  Is that fair?

No!  Not fair! No justice, no peace!

Well... eight years later justice came for Lizaida.   Perhaps not the kind she wanted...

2018: JUSTICE (COMES) FOR LIZAIDA
It is important to remember that all Defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. That said,  eight years after getting stiffed on equal pay for equal work, Justice came for Lizaida... the Department of Justice, that is.

Well, there you go. From fighting for equal pay, to fighting the Department of Justice.  All GA can say is...

What took you DOJ-people so long?  For G-ds sake.

And now, a bunch of sore election-losers and their butt-hurt pals want to bring back run-off elections, a GIFT to VBM harvesters!  More on that another day.

Here is Hoboken Mayor Bhalla's Statement on United States of America v Lizaida Camis:

MAYOR RAVINDER S. BHALLA'S STATEMENT ON UNITED STATES OF AMERICA VS. LIZAIDA CAMIS

Voting by mail is a tool that is intended to aid voters, but instead has been rampantly abused by corrupt political campaigns.  Today's official statement by the United States Attorney's office proves what we've known for years - candidates and campaigns will do anything, including bribing voters, to illegally influence elections here in Hoboken.  Quite simply, buying votes is an unlawful act that undermines our democracy, and must end once and for all.  I commend the United States Attorney's office and all law enforcement agencies involved for their focus on this endemic problem. It is my hope that anyone involved in this corrupt scheme outlined by the United States Attorney’s office is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

____________

GA NOTE:
Defendant's surname is Camis not "Camisa." GA could find no address past/present listing for Lizaida Camisa in Hoboken.  An online search for "Lizaida Camisa" returned 2010's Mail-In Ballot request for Hudson County. The 2010 Mail-in Ballot Request showed that "Lizaida Camisa" lived with "Bianca Camis".

Further, a 2014 article, "Hoboken’s legacy of vote-by-mail schemes"  refers to the voter fraud investigation of the 2010 Election, naming "campaign worker" Lizaida Camis.

Was the "Camisa" registered to vote-by-mail in 2010 a clerical error or an alias?  Who knows.

  1. What are the odds Lizaida came up with this scheme on her own? I wonder which candidate or campaign official may have been involved from that election. WHoever could it have been???

    1. Hoboken is the City of Open Secrets. The problem is when they're crimes. We all just have to stick to verifiable facts and documentary evidence and hope law enforcement investigates what's in plain sight. Never thought this day would come... its a nice surprise but as you suggest, the big fish just swim away?

  2. At one point weren't HHA residents who were convicted of crime subject to loseing their apartment ?

If that were to happen along with all the other legal penalties go a long way discourage others from continuing the practice.

    1. As much as I detest VBM fraud, if the HHA evicted those guilty of it, we'd end up evicting elderly people and families with children from their homes. Maybe let's stick to going after the big fish, not the little ones who get caught in their net.

    2. Since the housing authority buildings are federally owned, but locally administered, they are subject to federal regulations, including a zero strike policy. So yes, the perpetrators should be evicted and sentenced. Not sure if the people who were exploited to do the dirty work of the old guard understood that when they agreed to commit voter fraud, but I hope they and their bosses who live in subsidized housing all get tossed out.

    3. This is the first time I can remember there has been a conviction. As harsh as an eviction might appear to be it certainly would send a very clear message to everyone involved.

    4. Everyone who sold their vote needs to be prosecuted as well. The message is useless if everyone doesn't get it at the same time all up and down the food chain.

  3. Lizsida is not the target here - she's a little fish being squeezed. I seriously doubt she will ultimately choose to go to jail rather than rat out the people she's worked for over the years.

As GA points out she has been at this since at least 2010 and perhaps as early as the Campos campaign in 2007. 2013 was not her first rodeo.

I think all the campaigns that employed her should be feeling a little queezy.

  4. Never mind equal pay for work, how come there is only one defendant in the complaint and she is a female. What about the "guys" who were doing the same thing?
