Okay, so... last night someone sent GA a couple of screen shots of a posting on Mayor Ravi Bhalla's Facebook page-- which had migrated to Twitter. The exchange was Councilman Mike DeFusco trolling Bhalla-- I didn't understand it. For real. (Maybe because my eyeballs were glued to Rachel Maddow?)
"I don't get," I replied.
"Amar mistakenly posted on Ravi's Facebook without using his Administrator log in..."
That was it? So what.
Let me break it down.
Let me break it down.
Like many politicians, Bhalla works in lieu of farting around on social media. He has communications people for that. Not unusual. Even on Hoboken political campaigns, there is usually a designated person to update the candidate's Facebook page; I believe when Ruben Ramos ran for mayor, his Facebook guy was David Liebler. Nothing nefarious.
People who can add content to a politician's Facebook page are "Administrators" and have an Administrator's ID.
People who can add content to a politician's Facebook page are "Administrators" and have an Administrator's ID.
So, it appears that Amar forgot to log into his Administrator ID before writing a post on Mayor Bhalla's page. Yeah people, that's it. Whoop-di-frickin-do.
Its not Russia-gate.
Of course, in our toxic political environment, anything and everything gets pounced on by the creepy-crawlers of Hoboken's political world. GA rejected this story, but am writing about it now because my friend, Chris Halloran of hMAG, has thrown his two cents in. As I told Chris offline after reading his story, I thought it was "a bit unfair."
That's because I can relate to Amar's login screw-up.
Yes. I know what it's like to make a dumb ass login error; GA had Administrative privileges for Dana Wefer's defunct Facebook group, Hoboken Democratic Social Club. You bet I screwed up my log in at least a half-dozen times. Which means either my posts appeared as "GeeAye" on the "Hoboken Democratic Social Club" Facebook page, or my Adminstrator log in, "Hoboken Democratic Social Club" appeared on my "GeeAye" Facebook page. You follow?
Anyway, who gives a shit? Not me. Just my reaction to the elevation of much ado about not much.
What is noteworthy (to me) about the Twitter exchange is how an almost-mayor of Hoboken, Mike DeFusco, is trolling the current mayor on Twitter.
That is the story here. Behold the immaturity, the foolishness of an almost- Hoboken Mayor trolling the current mayor on social media!
Unless, DeFusco has Twitter "Administrators" to blame. He really should blame someone, because his juvenile snarking on Twitter demonstrates that he lacks the wisdom, maturity, gravitas and dignity to lead Hoboken.
DeFusco's Twitter meltdown is, in fact, Trumpian.
Now, can we discuss things that affect the lives of Hoboken residents? You're welcome.
I will take the Mayor's brother messing up some posting on social media over a candidate openly flouting campaign finance laws any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteIt's disappointing that HMag allowed DeFusco to basically hijack a story about political propaganda with ....lots of political propaganda.
ReplyDeleteIt seems pretty obvious that Amar intended to post his pretty innocuous words of support in his own name. He's posted many comments encouraging his brother like that over the past year.
A bit of an embarrassing "oops" moment but frankly if this the best Ravi's political opposition can do to manufacture aa Rav scandal he must be doing a pretty good job.
But it is HMag, and we all know their editorial content has always been staunchly anti-reform and pro-bar and pro-developer. So them letting DeFusco spout his stupidity is par for the course for them. They wouldn't know real news if it was tattooed on their foreheads and they were standing in front of a mirror.
DeleteMy Stableboy is all over it and already "put a Gate on it", so to speak. BroGate or ErroneousLogonGate or some such. Doesn't matter. "Whatever it is, just put a 'Gate' on it, Stableboy." That's his marching orders, and Stableboy likes to march.
ReplyDeleteI love his enthusiasm!
I love his opportunism!
I'm terrified by his pathology. But so far so good.
Meanwhile, Yappy the Alt-Right Real Estate Agent is on an anti-Roberts binge. It'll die down if we re-schedule the army parade. Yappy was really looking forward to having his picture taken riding a tank. Expect six more weeks of Grandpa Yappy in 24/7 ancient war story mode. He leaves himself out of the Roberts war stories. Never met the man apparently.
But the B-I-G-L-Y NEWS from 1600: No felony convictions today so far! #Winning!
It is much ado about nothing. The average person isn't going to care about this, and the image of Ravi being on the scene handing out water to residents is more potent and positive than all this nonsense about his brother.
ReplyDeleteIf you're on your phone you have to login to the FB Pages app to post or to respond as an administrator, but if you're seeing activity notifications on the regular FB app about the page you administer it's easy to forget who you are. Yeah, it happens. However, I happen to think that FB page administrators in general should focus on posting good content and at the same time refrain from commenting as if they are the average customer or citizen. It's just poor form and unnecessary.
Michael DeFusco being a manipulative, petty, angry, narcissistic. political opportunist should not come as shock to anyone at this point.
