It's that time of the year again...

You're supposed to blow on it, mayor, not teethe.

Yep, get ready Hoboken people....  here it comes!

Frank 'Pupie' Raia's annual 50th Birthday Party!  And that joke is almost as old as Frank!

GA kids Pupie.  But really, this Thursday night- July 5th-  is Frank's annual birthday bash at Sinatra Park.  Frank generously provides food and live entertainment for his Hoboken neighbors, who come out in droves.

Oh wait... look who else sent Frank a birthday card!

Wow! Everybody loves the Pupster!

In case you didn't know, Frank loves The Rolling Stones. He told me recently that he's been to 89 Rolling Stones concerts-- and that was before he flew out to see them perform in Ireland!

Accordingly, Frank's got a Rolling Stones tribute band The Glimmer Twins, performing again for the 4th  straight birthday bash.  If you're around on Thursday then come for the food, come for the music or come for the Raia-- whatever.  This is a Hoboken tradition.

Here are the details:

  1. Always been curious about how a private citizen gets permission from the city to commandeer public property for his own party. I suppose he files for permits (right?) and has some sort of official authorization (right?).

Part of me says good for him, it's a longstanding Hoboken tradition, Frank's got a reputation of helping locals in need, etc. But another part of me remembers his school board budgeting antics, backing of unsavory local political hacks, etc.

    1. Yeah, I am sure he has to get permits. The unsavory antics, etc. do have a deterrent effect-- I've never been to a birthday bash, not yet.

    2. Yeah, commandeering a popular public park on a summer day should not be allowed for private individuals, yoga businesses or your wedding no matter what the fee is. Hasn't he moved to Rutherford or something?

    3. Anon, my understanding is that the 'party' is a bunch of free food and music-- all open to the public. Not a private event for designated guests. Passers by can grab a weenie or... ?
