Fire on Willow Terrace

This is what the scene of yesterday's fire at 638 Willow Avenue looked like this morning.

The tenant of 638 Willow stood outside, good-humored for the fact that he and his girlfriend were displaced and their possessions waterlogged and smoky.  Neither were home at the time smoke was observed coming from building rooftop.  Hoboken's Fire Department was quickly on the scene and "sprayed water in both directions" on the rooftop, where it appears the fire started.

The tenant described "no fire damage"  and was extremely thankful his dog was rescued.

"He was scared, but fine," he said.

GA was told that Maroon was closed and probably not re-opening. Terrible news for the owner and neighborhood Maroon-addicts.

Maroon looked fine, but the acrid smell of smoke inside was strong.

The 7th Street side of the building looked undamaged from the street level.

So how the hell did a fire spontaneously start on (or near) a Willow Terrace rooftop?

Scary. The tenant said that "the insulation caught fire."

We all await the Hoboken Fire or Police Department report.

In the meantime, this poor couple and their dog are displaced, and a beloved neighborhood business is shuttered.  We all are thankful for the speed and great performance of the HFD, and HPD who assisted.

Fire trucks as seen from my window last night.
