3 broccoli and a wedding

Congratulations, lovely Irene and Joe!

GA was delighted to witness my old friend and former ZBA colleague, Irene Marie Smith marry Joe Wroblewski today at Our Lady of Grace.  In her single days, Irene and I would go out for drinks... so, it was nice to see that she did finally find her Prince Charming. (Don't give up, ladies! You'll find him/her, eventually!)

After the wedding, GA went to buy broccoli. In the produce section of ACME, I ran into an 'Old Hoboken' fella who's wired into local politics, and we had a nice chat over some avocados.  According to him, GA gleaned that the news that Bhalla was not running with Castellano had been a discouragement to his OG peeps.  Really?

But why?

So what if Bhalla already has someone he wants to run in the First Ward.  Rumor says Bhallla has 3 candidates in mind out of Hoboken's 6 wards.  Even if Bhalla has a candidate in mind for the First Ward, why should that stop Terry?  With or without Bhalla's support, she'll flay DeFusco. Cut him up like a flounder. Terry's base of support has not gone away-- and DeFusco can't count on Reform votes anymore. He is toast.  The word is, "no one likes him."

Trust me, that is true.

As for who's running in the 3rd Ward... Luigi Percontino is polling and he may run. No commitment from anyone yet.  Luigi is happy to run as an Independent.

Yep, the avocado-gossip was pretty good.

GA even asked my Old Hoboken friend about what his peeps thought about the Giattino-Fisher-Cunningham council members.

"They want them gone," he said "After 8 years they turn on Ravi like that and go with Ramos."

Wow.  That's exactly what I've been saying!  What the hell did these 'Reformers' think they were accomplishing by turning on the people they fought together with as a coalition for 8 years?

My friend went on a bit more about how his peeps were disgusted how the 3 councilpersons turned against Bhalla to go with Ramos, that Roman Brice was "nuts" and Kurt Gardiner went "crazy."  Hey, that's his opinion.

Anyway, you'll be happy to know that after the kibbutzing, GA bought some gorgeous broccoli--and 2 eggplants.

  1. Your OG friend seems sharp, direct, and on point. For what it's worth, I personally appreciated the class and grace with which Anthony Romano conducted himself during the campaign. Those are mature types I can appreciate. What we got from Jen and Tiff and definitely Mike was a complete lack of grace and no class whatsoever. I feel like I could work with folks with class and grace.

  2. I'm surprised anyone in the old guard would care about Roman or Kurt before or after they went loco.

    1. My friend reads the blogs -- those are the only two commenting on MSV. I wouldnt call that caring.
