GREEN JOBS FOR KIDS!
Hey, Moms and Dads! Why let your little slouchers (ages 14-17) toast their brains on YouTube this summer, when they can get a Green Job with the City of Hoboken!
Hear ye, hear ye:
Through this program, trainees will learn valuable skills that may lead to future employment opportunities in the increasingly relevant field of green infrastructure, which is the use of trees and plants to absorb rainfall, reduce flooding, and improve water quality and public health.
Additional training workshops may be provided throughout the Program in life skills, such as resume writing, community emergency preparedness, and financial literacy. Trainees will be responsible for shade tree maintenance, park cleanup, and green infrastructure installation and maintenance.
GA is a big believer in real-world experience for kids. (Mine is being similarly dispatched this summer, in her field of interest.)
If your kid loves the outdoors, wants to lend a hand to make Hoboken greener, better, and is curious about how green infrastructure works in cities to manage rainfall and flooding, this job offeres an amazing growth experience (and college resume-stuffer) for your kid! He/she may also discover a passion for this field- and this gig may lead to other opportunities!
If interested, your teen should apply at this workshop tomorrow:
If your teen can't make the workshop, applications are available at:Thursday, May 3, 2018 6:00 PM – 8:00 PMHoboken City Hall94 Washington StreetCouncil Chambers
If you know anyone who might be interested, pass it on! Good luck, kids.Department of Human ServicesCity Hall – 94 Washington St. 2nd floor
Hope this program is managed better than it was last year. It has a greater potential to improve the quality of life in Hoboken beyond small groups of unsupervised young people wandering around the City with almost empty orange garbage bags for pocket money
ReplyDeleteThat's depressing! Can you contact the Mayor's office and let them know what you observed in more detail? We've got a new mayor. I think this will get his attention.
DeleteSure beats having political candidates pay voters on election day for pocket money. But yes, best we teach kids life skills like cheaters never prosper, liars never mean well and folks who sell their souls to get elected should never be trusted.
