Honest errors v. DeFusco's incurable P2P violations

You know, mistakes happen. Honest people correct them.  When a politician discovers they've made a campaign finance mistake they correct it then report that correction  to the Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).  The correction is called a "cure" or a "remedy."

Here is an example of an honest campaign finance mistake that was cured.

'HONEST' P2P VIOLATION (PROMPTLY CURED)
Honest P2P violation: Team Giattino violated P2P when the campaign took  (3) excessive donations from 2 unions and a PAC.   The mistake was cured when Team Giattino refunded the money and reported it.

Honest politicians cure mistakes when they find them.

GA saw this P2P adjustment months ago- and its a non-story.

It only comes up now because council clowns are trying to blur the difference between an honest mistake and political corruption.

See below how Team Giattino cured their P2P violations on their Adjustment Schedule.

Our next example shows P2P violations that any reasonable person would believe were intentional.

In other words, this campaign allowed the 45 day legal-grace period to expire without refunding tens of thousands of dollars in  excess contributions. A reasonable person would believe that this campaign willingly consented to violating P2P law.

In my neck of the woods, we call that political corruption.

So, the difference between an HONEST mistake, and POLITICAL CORRUPTION is simply whether or not, upon discovery of the P2P violation, it is cured.

You will see that our next example illustrates political corruption, as defined above.

INTENT TO VIOLATE P2P (NOT CURED)
GA has added a column to the original Mike DeFusco Pay-to-Play (P2P) Violations Chart. The new column provides the total number of days since each excessive contribution was received.  Again, DeFusco had 45 days to cure the P2P violation.

Holy cow...

Add up the days that the DeFusco campaign has languished since pocketing the PAC and Union excessive contributions, that's a total of 3,750 days or 10.2 YEARS!

Now, ask yourself: why would self-identified 'reformers' facilitate this political corruption with their silence?

  1. Tribalism, pure and simple. It’s why people who aren’t otherwise stupid convince themselves there’s a child sex ring in the basement of a pizza parlor that doesn’t have a basement. It’s the most important lesson of the Trump era. Tribalism “trumps” other considerations.

If logic mattered, even ex-reformers would shun Defusco (and Ramos). But they’re in the tribe now. Bhalla isn’t. Bhalla is getting the pizza-gate treatment from Tribe Butt-hurt. They convince themselves of whatever they need to believe. But Defusco gets a pass for really doing what they accuse Bhalla of (and many times worse). Trying to reason with them is pointless. It’s not about reason. It’s anout who’s in the tribe. And who isn’t.

  2. Yes. Tiffanie, Peter, Jen don't care about accuracy or consistency or principle any more. If they did, they'd call out Michael for actually doing what he's accusing Ravi of doing.

  3. Our website administrator does not get near the credit he deserves for his efforts. Unlike this part-time operation, he’s out there writing BOTH the articles AND the comments. Recently he raised the bar by writing a comment and then deciding it was SO good that he presented it as a kind of “reader editorial” —like the “reader letters” Klaussen used to do with Sara and Kim. Still a crowd-pleaser!

Under that “article” one of the comments he wrote as a “reader” (try your best to keep up) explains why we aren’t pursuing Defusco’s ELEC violations which were first raised by The Only Voice That Matters, the Tiffanatrix.

    Because it’s “dead.”

That’s it. Beginning, middle and end of story. The complaint is “dead.”

Resolved? No. Money paid back? No. Visible adjustments in ELEC? Are you drunk? NO.

But it’s dead all the same. That is, Michael is on the team now. His debts are forgiven and past misdeeds are forgotten. Poof.

It’s been... “cleared up” to coin a phrase. In fact with his usual inadvertent sense of irony, our website administrator even invokes that infamous episode. He just doesn’t get that it applies to us now.

But why should he? We don’t explain everything to him. Who has time for that?
