HISTORY: They were FOR 'Juventus handicapped parking spot' before they were AGAINST it

GA has cobbled together the history of the contested 'Juventus handicapped spot' from meeting minutes and agendas.

In a nutshell, this council was FOR the 'Juventus handicapped spot' before they were AGAINST it.

Further, not only did the Council grant the 'Juventus' spot- they approved a total of (4) general handicapped spots, all included in Ordinance Z-429.

Ask yourself why Giattino selectively wants to eliminate the Juventus general handicapped spot and not the others?

HISTORY
Ordinance Z-429, which included amendments to Chapter 192 "Parking for Handicapped" was introduced without a sponsor on August 3, 2016. The minutes of that meeting tell us that:
  • Ordinance Z-429 requested FOUR (4) general handicapped spaces.
  • The (4) general handicapped spots were located in Wards 2, 3, 4 and 6.
  • It passed on First Reading by all 8 councilpersons present: Bhalla, Cunningham, DeFusco, Doyle, Fisher, Mello, Ramos and President Giattino.

 AUGUST 3, 2016 MEETING MINUTES

Where are these general handicapped spots exactly?  Why were they put there? Are they serving commercial or public uses- or both?

Let's look on the map.  For APPROXIMATE* locations (*GA scaled off the Google Satellite map) see below.

GENERAL HANDICAPPED SPOT #1
The Third Ward spot is across the street from commercial properties including Public Storage.

GENERAL HANDICAPPED SPOT #2
The Fourth Ward spot is in front of the Multi-Service Center.

GENERAL HANDICAPPED SPOT #3
The Second Ward spot is across the street from Maxwell Place Park and the Hoboken Cove Boat House.

GENERAL HANDICAPPED SPOT #4
The Sixth Ward spot is in front of Juventus Club and a large commercial space.

Ordinance Z-429 passed unanimously on 2nd reading on September  7, 2016.

And this time, it had a sponsor- Councilman DeFusco, seconded by Councilman Ramos.

SEPTEMBER 7, 2016 MEETING MINUTES

So, the general handicapped spot in front of Juventus was approved in 2016.  According to Hoboken's current Transportation and Parking Director Ryan Sharp, that spot was only implemented "a few months ago."

Whoever is trying to make the argument that a certain  Director in the Bhalla administration (*cough* Leo Pellegrini) is pulling strings, the facts don't support it. It took TWO YEARS for the city to provide this approved handicapped parking spot.

QUESTIONS
If the public accepts Council VP Giattino's reason for trying to remove the 'Juventus' location handicapped parking spot- that "every business would want one"- why just remove the Juventus spot and not the other general parking spots that serve adjacent commercial properties?

The Multi-Service Center general handicapped parking spot may also be used by patrons of Leo's Grandezvous.  Now every restaurant will want one, too!

The general handicapped parking spot near the Hoboken Cove Boathouse may serve the nearby private Montessori SchoolNow every Hoboken private school will want one, too!

The general handicapped parking spot across the street from the Public Storage facility is... is.. is... convenient for handicapped people.

So is the one in front of Juventus, with its elderly population.

So why do Giattino and Ramos want to remove it before there is a provision for handicapped parking on that street?

Does anyone else see history repeating itself?

Comments

  1. Let's remember that Jen was for eliminating runoff elections before she was against them. Amazingly, even after Eric Kurta shared written evidence that Jen was for eliminating runoffs by sharing a copy of her signature on a petition calling for a referendum on the issue, she still, painfully, explained that she was really against runoffs at the time. These folks are full of crap and lie and play games with ease.
