Okay, I am actually embarrassed for Mike DeFusco.
Less than 24 hours after GA noted the Councilman's LGBTQ civil rights resolution, CL2, was missing from the Resolution pack...
...it appeared.
...it appeared.
So I read it. Ugh. This resolution reveals DeFusco's stunning apathy for Hoboken's LGBTQ community. Riddled with errors and nebulous complaints, it's legislative meringue; written to show up the mayor, nothing more.
It's entire premise is wrong.
It's entire premise is wrong.
The premise of Mike DeFusco's faux LGBTQ legislation is that Hoboken City health care does not cover transgender employees (or transgender spouses)- um, wrong.
The City's healthcare insurance does cover transgender members of the LGBTQ community.
It took GA all of 3 minutes to find that out.
Why doesn't Councilman Mike DeFusco know this? He is utterly incurious about the issue he's grandstanding about --healthcare for transgender city employees.
If he doesn't know, he doesn't care.
Defusco correctly cites Hoboken's "2017 Municipal Equality Index" from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as 92 (out of 100).
However, this report shows that HRCF deducted 6 points from Hoboken's score for not having transgender healthcare benefits, which is WRONG. We do.
Make Hoboken's MEI score a 98 (A+).
Next, he cites unidentified "specific and acute needs" in Hoboken's LGBTQ community that are not being met. Then proposes "specific municipal services" geared toward the LGBTQ community.
Okay... this is legislation, not an afternoon at the shrink's office.
Waaaaa! is not legislation. What is DeFusco asking for? How much will it cost? Where will it be? How many hires?
He doesn't know.
DeFusco doesn't care enough about the LGBTQ community to know our transgender City workers do get healthcare coverage, nor to identify a single "specific need."
His legislation pulls back that curtain. SAD.
DeFusco's SAD Resolution is below. Okay, I ranted on it.
Good work exposing this fraud in his own words. Nice to have a site that still does meaningful analysis.
ReplyDeletei hope someone on the council points out all of these errors and omissions of fact at the meeting.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Forced to pick up the scraps eh? Everyone knows the Pulitzer will go to our gavel-to-gavel coverage of Crop-gate. We got there first, so you’re stuck with covering our proposed legislation, or lack thereof. Like that’s a story.
ReplyDeleteShades of your failure to cover The Sign at Church Towers. And The Surge, which you also missed. And Text-gate, another game-changer.
Anyway it’s not like our website administrator gives a rats ass for lgbtq rights. We told him not to make that crack about recognizing 64 ice cream flavors/genders, but he’s kind of a ’phobe and a rube, doncha know. Then again, the boss lady isn’t really a Democrat, so what’s the diff, right? It’s soooooo easy to get along when no one complicates things by standing for something.
DeF*ckup is gonna choke himself on the pride flag.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Garden State Equality, the statewide LGBTQ civil rights org chiming in on these (mostly) (non) issues.
Rather than legislate demanding LGBT specific services (without demonstration of need, just political grandstanding), the city should require sensitivity/awareness training and market our fair city as LGBT affirming or "all welcome" (because hey we could use some race and ethnicity work here too in Hoboken).
He is such a moron it is just painful to even watch him speak.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the poorly educated! And no President has done more than me to make sure they stay that way.
ReplyDeleteJust look. Dozens of comments about picture cropping and NONE about legislation writing. Brings tears of evangelical joy to my eyes!
Thank you, Trump’s America. Thank you, Alt-Right news selectors. From the bottom of my tighty-whiteys.
