Agenda changes: Council backs down, Resolution to terminate eminent domain at UDD site

Here we go, people: tonight's City Council meeting agenda has been revised as follows (changes are highlighted.)

COUNCIL LEADERS BACK DOWN
Apparently, Councilwoman Giattino and Councilman Ramos recognized that they did not have the votes to override Mayor Bhalla's veto, meaning appointment powers for Hoboken's Rent Leveling board stay with the mayor.

Accordingly, they pulled Resolutions CL-3 through CL-6.  GA is surprised to see that both glommed onto the Falco-Russo Resolutions as the 3rd and 4th sponsors!

Why did they do that? Resolutions require a sponsor and a co-sponsor- that's it. Oh well, when you've got a rogue council, expect the unexpected.

GA doesn't know why Giattino appears to be getting a pass for accepting "free" legal services (Ryglicki's  opinion) in violation of Hoboken law. So, is this practice acceptable?  Should Nick Sacco get an Inbox at City Hall?

The Councilwoman should pay the Ryglicki firm the value of the services rendered.  End of story.

RESOLUTION TO TERMINATE EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDING
Talk about emergency Resolutions... this one was a condition of stopping NJ Transit from buying the UDD property today but...

NJ TRANSIT has rescheduled the meeting for TOMORROW.  If the Council does not pass the Resolution tonight, then the meeting proceeds, and so does the purchace of the UDD property.

They are betting on the dysfunction of Hoboken's City Council to obstruct the Mayor's negotiations, then declare him a la la la  L-O-S-E-R.

Actually, the Council may be rogue, but not suicidal. After some DeFusco finger-wagging theatrics, and Ruben Ramos figuring out a way to tie this to the mayor's of-counsel gig, they will vote for Hoboken.

GA hopes they remember that there is a villain here, but it's not Mayor Bhalla. Stay tuned.

  1. I'm glad to see GiaFusco's vaunted math skills were up to the task of counting votes and they made the prudent choice to pretend to have been part of the solution to the problem they themselves created with their attempted power grab.

Hopefully this fiasco will bring the "Gia" half of "GiaFusco back to their senses. I doubt it will but hope springs eternal and putting the nonsense behind us is what's best for the city.
