Well, the cat is out of the bag.
Yesterday, the Murphy administration notified NJ municipalities about transportation grant awards; today they are expected to make them public.
But that hasn't stopped some Hudco mayors from spreading the news. So far, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop tweeted that his city got a $2M grant, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis announced his city's $400K grant.
What about Hoboken? We got something, right? Hoboken is 1 square mile, has PATH, Light Rail, Ferry and Hoboken Terminal, NJ Transit buses and bike lanes.
By comparison, our neighbor Jersey City is 21.8 square miles, has PATH stations, Light Rail, Ferry, NJ Transit trains, the Journal Square Transportation hub, Holland Tunnel entry, and buses as well as extensive bicycle paths. Phew.

Hoboken is 1/10 the size of JC. Getting 4/10s of what they got isn't crazy (I get that Hoboken has a major concentration of transit options). There'd be a major freak-out in JC if Hob gets close to what they get. The good news is that we have a governor who isn't mailing it in with respect to neglected infrastructure. And Trump fans - tweeting doesn't count.
ReplyDeleteYep. I figure we have to get at least as much as what we got last year. We'd better!
