  1. Well I was floored that MDF won our ward, after pulling a Christie and spending half his term running for another office all the while accomplishing anything for his constituents.

Then I looked at the districts.

Telling he lost district 6, the area of the first ward most prone to flooding.

  2. Since some people continue to insist on revisionist history, one point must be made for the record:

In the 2005 runoff between Marsh and Roberts, Marsh, Lenz and Soares actively pursued support from Russo and Raia, who placed third and fourth on the first ballot. Marsh for sure sat down with Raia to try to negotiate a coalition on behalf of her slate, which included Soares. They failed to obtain support from either, hence they lost, but were fully prepared to accept it from either or both and win.

    Nice try though.

    1. I hear they are still chattering away on MSV. That is the loser's reward, so leave them to it. For my money they can all go fuck themselves. And in all of their cases, after this election, that's redundant.

    2. Well preparing for life under the callous regime of the most anti-rent-control mayor in the history of rent control must take its toll on the human psyche. For those who warned of the Bhallacolypse bringing all goodness to its knees, their worst nightmare is upon us.

  3. what about the surge? i was told there would be a surge.

what's the word for going from third place to fourth? unsurge?

  4. So let me see if I get this straight. Jen got clobbered in the Tea Building (nice going Tiff), her own Ward, even her own District. She was comatose in the 4th Ward as I guess the peeps in the SW really want a park after all.

Where did she think that she was going to pull any votes that would make her a contender? Probably the most inept and idiotic campaign I have seen in Hoboken. Nothing positive, always negative and trying to sell a story that the Mayor and Ravi were suddenly these horribly corrupt individuals that had screwed over Hoboken with the Suez settlement. Yeah, right. That went over really well.

WTF were these people who are supposedly “good with numbers” thinking? What freaking vanity magic carpet ride were these morons taking? Whatever happened to the “surging” of the Reform Resistance? 4th Place Jen. She started there and “surged” to her final resting place. The nasty underbelly of racial bigotry which was heard by far too many people from those around her(and which she never disavowed) was thankfully shoved up their arseholes. So much for her “executive material” qualities that failed her as she surrounded herself with dumb and dumber, and dumbest, campaign acolytes.

It is truly sad that the barn has become such a manure pile. A good stall cleaning is in order. And it may be time for a visit to the glue factory. The inability to exhibit any introspection regarding how painfully and pitifully off base the whole crew was, from the start, makes them irrelevant. And the bitterness and venom doesn’t help at all. The headline about “Sihking” votes on election day or some rot like that speaks volumes about the thinly veiled racism that bubbled just below the surface of their campaign antics. And he probably has no clue just how offensive he is being. As I have heard elsewhere in this campaign, a reputation is not a boomerang.

BTW, this creepy fixation with you over there is reminiscent of the pyscho Mr. Sara and his/her obsession with the Mayor. The day after the election and there are two effing stories about YOU? WTF? Someone needs to hop out of their pampers and put their big boy pants on.

    1. QOTV, that was truly marvelous, as there is no thumbs function here, I am giving you a
      vigorous 2 thumbs up.

    2. That's a beaut, QOTV.

Re: the street racism. I popped into Lisa's to get out of the rain for a few minutes from irritating the crap out of any last minute voters I and a fellow reform dinosaur could find. The counter lady said she was hoping for a Romano or Giattino win, though she had nothing against Bhalla. But, she said, customers called him "turban man" and would not vote for him. Take from that what you will.

Re: Tiff. I don't get it. When she kicked Biancamano's arse in 2015 (I put in a small amount of time there too, though in much better weather), I figured this is a formidable pol who isn't going to need a lot of help from the rest of us. An now we're here. Feels like I'm missing the middle 6 chapters of a novel.

A hiatus might be good for the blogs in general. As you say once you start blogging about a blog the day after an election, it's time for a break.

    3. it was in some ways a perfect storm of the entitled (tiff, jen), the opportunists (lenz, indie) and the delusional (roman). a heady cocktail of one part naivety and one part exploitation in hopes of self interest. it almost resembled a con game, except there is no jackpot at the end.

    4. If MSV still had the thumbs up/down function on its site, it would have been very obvious a long time ago how poorly received Jen's candidacy would be.

  5. If Romano had hired a really professional political consultant the results may have been different. Instead he hired a guy who thinks that flooding the town with kids wearing Romano t-shirts is a campaign instead of addressing issues and making real comparisons between candidates. Well, one thing is for sure, Anthony will not recover the over $100,000 he lent his campaign and which was foolishly spent with five weeks still left in the campaign. Hope he enjoys his last term as Freeholder. Unless lightning strikes, he's sure to be targeted by the new administration.

  6. it's actually a little sad that days after the election, no one has even mentioned poor dave mello. yeah, i know, he got a little cranky and unreliable over the past year or so but i still give him lot of credit for standing with the zimmer administration for many years, and of course all the abuse he took while trying to right the ship at HHA. we may not always see eye to eye now, and i know some people have bones to pick with him on a personal level, but i do appreciate the many positive things he did in the past when it mattered.

  7. Even though people split up into factions in this election, it's important to remember that Jen Giattino, Dave Mello and Peter Cunningham have all made critically important contributions in terms of helping Hoboken emerge from a cesspool of corruption and mismanagement. Hoboken owes them, as well as Mayor Zimmer, a huge debt of gratitude for their past service and I expect that Peter and Jen will work cooperatively with Ravi and continue to serve their wards and our City well.

Mike DeFusco and Tiffanie Fisher, having served only 2 years on the council, do not yet have comparable records of past service but hopefully they have learned important lessons from the verdict of the voters and will join the others in working cooperatively with Ravi.

It's the right thing to do for all the Councilpeople just as it's the right thing for Ravi, and certainly its what the voters the council people will face in two years expect of them.

    1. If nothing else you'd expect self-preservation to kick in.

Do the cc really want to keep fighting against a Suez deal? Except for the last few holdouts running an endless tab at the resentment bar and grill, the election is over. The next time the cc members talk about Suez in a campaign, it won't be to complain about Zimmer and by extension Bhalla. It will be fending off an attack from whoever is running against them and blaming them for inaction on the contract.

Suez is one of several issues that are used up as political ploys, and they're smart enough to know it.

  8. We'll have a pretty good sense pretty quickly of whether this council can put the election behind them and objectively do their jobs.

A council president will have to be somehow agreed upon and the council will have to choose between ratifying the Suez deal or being responsible for a huge unnecessary tax increase (or a huge raid on the city's surplus).

Also 2nd readings will be coming up on UDD eminent domain authorization and on the increased offer for the 2nd acre in the SW.

How these issues are handled will be a pretty good sign as to whether a majority of council members are ready to do their jobs or whether we're in for two years of obstructionist shennanigans at the public's expense.

If doing the right thing isn't motivation enough (and I genuinely believe that for most it will be) then hopefully the ward council people will remember they will be facing the voters 2 years before Mayor Bhalla does.

  9. I wonder if anyone who spurned Zimmer this year will seek her endorsement in 2 years. Time is a funny thing in politics, and Zimmer has always understood the long game better than most.

    1. if i were the mayor, i'd probably take the high road and let jen and peter slide but not "tiff", who really went off the deep end in essentially accusing the administration of being corrupt. couple that with how she betrayed her role at the hoboken democratic committee -- yes, she's free to support whoever she wants but should have stepped down if she decided to so vigorously and publicly support a republican -- and i think it's pretty clear she doesn't deserve future reform endorsement or support.

please, reform, find a good person in the 2nd ward to replace "tiff" next go around. mark me down as a volunteer to knock on doors on their behalf.

  10. Could anyone explain to me the process how a Council President is chosen/elected? Thanks. If it is a vote, is it a hidden vote, or do people have to own what they do?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope, not hidden. It happens at a public meeting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it can happen anytime by resolution (I believe) or a reorganization when the newly elected councilperson get seated.

    2. Thanks Gee Aye, any speculation about who might get that seat?
