International incident: Hoboken's racist attack hits U.K. Press

beautiful Hoboken family

Who thought a flyer equating a turban-wearing Sikh mayoral candidate with a terrorist was a good idea?

Well, their antics have literally created an international incident; the story's gone viral. One foolish campaign has tarnished Hoboken in the eyes of the world.

Our beautiful city full of good, decent folks, has been hurt by this racist attack on a turban-wearing candidate.  They've made Hoboken look like a backwater village of bumpkins who'd be receptive to this kind of racist fear-mongering.

Worse, it's hurt a man's child. An innocent girl whose hero has been attacked as a "terrorist" for the family's religion.

This is NOT who we are, people.

Expect more international press. The world is watching.

  1. incredibly, the latest line i've heard is "word on the street is Bhalla himself is the person behind this flyer".

    1. Just goes to show how low some people will go in the last days of a political campaign. What a completely shameless allegation!

    2. Didn't those SOBs use the same "excuse" the last few election cycles? It was false then, it is false now.

    3. "Word on the street" is normally code of garbage Roman Brice makes up and tries to pretend is true while not being responsible for it.

  2. For the record, I do not believe this filth actually came from the DeFusco campaign... HOWEVER, the DeFusco team consists almost entirely of the team cultivated and for all intents and purposes led by Maurice Fitzgibbons. Maurice was known by many to often say of the presence of Zimmer, Mason and Bhalla in mayor and council positions that the governing body should be "more reflective" of the "more traditional" Hoboken constituency, and specifically that there shouldn't be any more Jews than Mason and Zimmer since that would be disproportionate with the electorate.

I'm not saying the current DeFusco team holds those views, nor that they support this attach on Bhalla, but I also never heard Maurice disavow them nor any of his disciples now working with DeFusco criticize him for it.

    1. For my money it's kind of obvious which campaign did it. But Defusco has to own the fact that the online and offline antics of his surrogates make it extremely easy to believe it's his flier.

    2. Agreed on the obviousness -- I stand by prior statements that any and all midnight fliers of sleazy content and competent production and distribution originate in the same clubhouse.

Nevertheless, Maurice's many breakfast companions at Diana's regularly heard his take on the need to limit religious diversity in the local government. I have no reason to suspect anyone who's went through the many campaigns with him over the decades or continue to carry his legacy now, largely out of shared fundamental values, feels particularly differently on the matter.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS, SNOOPY!

You are the first of hopefully numerous Reform winners today.

Someone is leveraging your established online reputation and integrity as a blogger to make a completely daft post in your name in the hopes that your handle will lend it the credibility it sorely lacks. There is no higher compliment than this kind of lunacy. You have arrived!

And can there be any richer irony than pretending to be a blogger commenting on a flier that is pretending to be from a different candidate and pretending to know it was the fault of someone who clearly had no role.

I do sometimes roll my eyes when people say "Hoboken is different." But where else on earth can you see this? Whether or not you want to is an entirely different matter...

    1. I feel honored and privileged. Ok, not really.

I saw that post from hobokensnoopy yesterday & mentioned it on another thread on GA. I don't read the reporter let alone post on it. The only reason I read the post was someone here said that someone there commented that the perp had turned himself in. So I wanted to see exactly what the comment said.

Last week someone posted on Horse's site that I post voraciously or vacuously on here. I really don't know which because they coined a new word that could have meant either of the above.

I had no idea I was "this popular."

      Smh.

Btw, I voted today, did everyone else?

    2. wife and i cast our votes for bhalla and team this morning. i have hope, fingers crossed, although i fear the worst. there's gonna be months and years of arguing and finger pointing if (when?) MDF or romano win. "jen" will never live down her spoiler ego trip, and "tiff" can kiss her hoboken democratic committee role (and hopefully council seat as well) goodbye.

  4. Giatinno should be ashamed of herself. Do you have to have a college education to have enough self awareness to feel shame? NO? Good. Also, cannot even imagine the spin that R Brice and that tall guy are going to have to concoct, probably 10 G forces.
