EXCLUSIVE: 2nd Ward resident "exploring" a run in 2019

Wait, we just finished a municipal election; folks are already planning for the next?

Apparently so.

The following City Council seats are up for grabs in 2019: DeFusco (1st ward), Fisher (2nd ward), Russo (3rd ward), Ramos (4th ward), Cunningham (5th ward), Giattino (6th ward).

It's not clear how many incumbents will seek re-election, but that is not a factor for at least one Hoboken resident.

According to sources, 2nd Ward resident, Dan Bryan, is  "exploring" a Council run in 2019.  GA  tried to contact Bryan but he could not be reached for comment.  However, the sources are solid; and some information told to me will remain confidential.

For those who may not know the name, Dan Bryan served as Mayor Zimmer's Chief of Staff from 2011 through 2015.

He currently serves as a senior advisor to Governor-elect Phil Murphy.  In fact, Bryan was an early supporter of Murphy's, leaving his job at a PR firm to join the Murphy campaign. His campaign role was Digital Director/Senior Advisor  of Communications and Digital Outreach.

Having NJ Governor Murphy's senior advisor on the City Council would be a great asset to the City of Hoboken; in addition to the fact the Governor-elect has a friendship with Mayor Zimmer and Mayor-elect Bhalla.

Explore away, Dan Bryan!

  1. this will make some heads explode...

we need a smart, strategic democrat in the 2nd ward, as opposed to what we have now. having someone who is also experienced in the ways of city hall/local politics AND connected to state politics and the governor's office is a huge bonus. i say go for it.

  2. Bryan's a great guy, hope this scoop is true, and as Twain said: "politicians, like diapers, need to be changed often, and for the same reason." At least this may mean Fisher starts doing her job and works collegially with Bhalla and everyone else we elected - and pay.

Wonder who will run against DeFusco? They may wait till the last minute and make their decision on the fly, but at least we'll have two more years of his bi-monthly, histrionic melt-downs.

    1. Dan Bryan would be a great representative of the 2nd ward! He knows the ins and the outs of local and state politics and has lots of great relationships in Hoboken, Hudson County and State government. Tiffanie Fisher simply MUST GO! I cannot think of anyone better than Dan Bryan to replace her.

    2. Bryan may be good or even better, but I don't agree that Fisher was awful until recently. She has a chance in the next two years to redeem herself. Remember, the 2nd ward had Mason who almost bankrupted the city, did nothing for the 2nd ward and sold us out to the dark side, and before her, Delboccio who was pleasant, but did just enough to stay elected and no more.

  3. While anybody can redeem themselves remember that the same line of wasn't awful until recently could have been applied to Mason.

Just like with Mason, Fisher hasn't changed. We just got to know her better.

    1. I agree. Tiffanie was a fascist in sheep's clothing all along.

    1. How many snowflakes did she put up? I can't keep count, but I know she can.

  5. If Councilwoman Fisher is unseated, who will persistently advocate on the City Council against Pacman Ravi Bhalla's evil backdoor schemes to let Jersey Transit build enormous jaw dropping terrorist towers filled with drug dealing illegal immigrants and Antifa assassin's?

Will Dan Bryan persistently advocate for a Giafusco alliance dedicated to ensuring that Hoboken is worse off in 4 years than it us today?

    I think not.

Will Dan Bryan stop PTP Bhalla and his PTP chief of staff from selling the City to Suez by renegotiating the awesome contract Tony Soares and Ruben Ramos helped with depriving us of 7 more years of water main break? I think not.

Will Dan Brian fight to deliver the Council Presidency to reform icon Ruben Ramos?

    I think not.

Dan Brian is not executive material. He does not know how to negotiate and he does not know math.

We cannot allow the resistance to be resisted. We must stop the Dan Bryan insurgency now!

    1. Sounds woefully unqualified. I'll bet he's never even run a government in exile.

  6. On a more serious note, during the campaign an anonymous poster I believe to be Roman Brice posted stuff on the internet - the Hobojen Reporter website if I recall correctly, to the effect that drug dealing illegal immigrants would take over our town if Ravi was elected, presumably because of his support for making Hoboken a welcoming City. He also talked alot about Ravi's supposed support for Antifa.

How big a leap is it from there to saying that if Ravi was elected terrorists would take over our City?

I'd hate to think Roman, bigot that I believe he is, would stoop to this level, but based on his published opinions the possibility needs to be seriously considered.

I doubt we'll ever really know but he's certainly included in the rogues gallery of realistic potential suspects.

    1. Pshaw! No white supremacist worth his salt would hire the guys in the video to handle distribution.

    2. At a time when James O'Keefe's Project Veritas is back in the news for their botched Washington Post frame-up, it's a theory that's certainly plausible enough to warrant serious exploration. Brice is a major proponent of the ACORN voter-fraud "scandal" that resulted from a previous Veritas set-up, so he's clearly a believer in precisely those sort of tactics as a means-justifying-ends political strategy.

  8. while i doubt sybil the horse has the balls to be involved with creation of the flier, it's my opinion that his online posts/comments certainly indicate the "ravi=terrorist" sentiment is something he probably wouldn't raise strong objection to.

    1. I think it's more Ravi = terrorist facilitator, but that could easily be the idea the flyer was meant to convey - rather than that Ravi was a terrorist himself (though its pretty obvious that meaning is implied as well).

I don't think Brice himself did this - it's actually way beyond his limited pay grade. But he could have suggested the idea it to someone who then acted on it.

Like I said, we'll likely never know. But it's way more plausible than the insanity he's peddling. If we're going g to be in the peddling crazy unsubstantiated theory business then this very much belongs in the mix.

    2. Well isn't the long con by them is that the only way Ravi won was because of the flyer? It will hang around like the Obama birth certificate and they can keep on bringing it back until the next election...sigh....

    3. sounds like we're in agreement, and you're correct that "ravi = terrorist facilitator" is the more accurate intended message.

@TheBankRobber, you hit the nail on the head. like obama and the birthers, this will dog ravi through his entire term and i'm sure MDF will make the flyer a centerpiece of his next run for mayor (campaign slogan: "i was robbed, remember?!!")

and the butthurt brigade will run on the winning platform of "join us in wallowing in the unfairness of it all...remember the botched hand off/backroom deal?? and having the nerve to call jen a republican?? the horror!!"

    4. thank you @me...... i have to keep reminding myself that most of the people in Hoboken know that of course Ravi didn't make the flyer and that Hoboken got some nice publicity when he won.

  9. Dan Bryan would be an excellent member of the City Council. Imagine someone completely level-headed but with deep experience (over 10 years now) working with elected officials and politicians to execute on their promises and priorities. He knows and understands Hoboken thoroughly, and has substantive relationships throughout Hoboken, Hudson County, and the State. He also plays well in the sandbox. Finally he knows campaigns and campaigning. He would be a HUGE improvement over Tiffanie and a super candidate. I would enthusiastically knock on doors and contribute to his candidacy.

Seriously, the bench in the 5th, 2nd, and 6th is deep. There are rockstar candidates. Jen, Peter, and Tiffanie should feel pressure to do the right thing on every vote. There are very good candidates waiting to run against them, and they will all run professional campaigns with the necessary budget and personnel behind them. My patience is running out, especially when we have rockstars options ready and waiting.

Btw, first show of faith: Peter, Tiff, Jen support Jim to be Council President. He’s qualified, reasonable, and most aligned with them. He’s waited 4 years. It’s his turn now.
