Source: "As of Thursday, 1600 VBM applications, 700 votes returned"

Lit allegedly being given out in the Fourth Ward (faces digitized by GA)

Wow!  If my source is correct, the 2017 mayoral election is headed toward historic VBM returns.

700 absentee votes in this early?

Not great news for either Reform campaign, however not entirely unexpected.

Below were the VBM totals in 2013 (as of November 7, 2013.)  That year, the Ramos-machine beat the Pupie-machine in VBM totals; however now both Ramos and Pupie are backing Mike DeFusco.

Logic would have it that Mike will get a windfall of these absentee votes.

The VBM total votes cast for mayor (as of Nov 7, 2013) was 1,015; Zimmer got 24.8%, Ramos/Occhipinti got 75.2% of the total absentee votes cast.

So, in spite of the rumored F.B.I. presence in Hoboken now, the volume of absentee ballot applications appears unaffected if not greater than ever.  Does this mean there will be more legitimate votes cast by absentee or does this signal a massive harvest operation, aimed at eking out a victory  in a winner-take-all election?

GA is curious where these ballot requests are coming in from- specifically, which wards. But really, 11 days out from the election and it appears the 'fix' is in.

  1. The OG has been gleeful since the day Jen turned in her signatures at City Hall, guaranteeing that Reform will lose and one of them will be the next mayor. All you have to do is look at the usual number of total votes for OG candidates, such as in the last mayoral election, and compare that number to the total number of votes for Reform candidates. If there’s only one Reform candidate, then his total will exceed the split totals of the two OG candidates. However, if there are two Reform candidates, then it is virtually impossible for either one of them to exceed the winning OG candidate. The candidate who stepped in to create this unfortunate situation is called the spoiler.

    1. OldTimey, Unfortunately you are talking to a wall. These "Reform Resisters" with Giattino as a figurehead (that's where to send your Thank you cards) have peeled off enough Reform support from the leading candidate, Bhalla, to push our worst nightmare over the top. In spite of promises not to run two Reform candidates. Welcome to a permanent split reform, and losses as far as the eye can see. Jen's legacy.

    2. Don't be writing any obits yet. This is a tight 3 way race with deFusco and romano and Ravi is probably a slight favorite. At the end of the day, romano and DeFusco will get their VBM's and Jen will take some votes that would have gone to Ravi from people who either actually believe she can win (based on either hopes and dreams coordinate Roman's made up data) or who sadly would rather have defusco or romano than Ravi. We have no control over those things.

Ravi slightly leads in every poll we've heard about and will win if we turn out every vote we can on election day. Worrying about the future of good government in hoboken if Ravi loses is a distraction we cannot afford until after the election.
