Nason's Big Heart

Karen and GA may not be aligned on politics, but who cares when a gal has a heart 2 sizes too big?

I sure don't.

Here's the story.

Nason for Mayor reported a closing balance of $4,146,73 on her July 15 ELEC- anemic cash reserves to run a citywide mayoral campaign. Right?

So, Karen got a great idea how to fund-raise for her campaign, while providing a culturally enriching experience for Hoboken residents.  She would produce (3) nights of Tennessee Williams' one-act plays on October 13, 14 and 15 at the Mile Square Theater, with net proceeds going to her campaign.

That is what she was going to do...

Until a series of hurricanes ravaged Texas, Florida and now Puerto Rico, not to mention the U.S. Virgin Islands.

So in this political season of me, me, me, Nason turned it around and is giving, instead of  receiving.

That's right, she is donating all proceeds from the Theatrical event to the Hurricane Relief Fund.

That is exceptional kindness in a very very unkind election season.

So, peeps. If you are curious why a progressive Dem (me) likes a Trump Repub (her) that's why.

Speaking of her party affiliation, another reason GA respects Nason is that she owns who she is.

Karen is completely open and honest and proud of her "Republican values". She told me straight-up she voted for Trump (blech) even though she knows how I feel about the Orange Caligula.   She'd rather be honest than win approval dishonestly.

Karen can (and does) articulate how her Republican values translate into how she will govern Hoboken, if  elected mayor.

Contrast Nason with other Republican in the race, Jen Giattino.

Giattino is extremely defensive if you bring up her party affiliation; her surrogates will scold that  our elections are "non-partisan."

Sure, that may be true, but one's party affiliation indicates their priorities and how they will govern  Hoboken.   And Giattino hasn't offered a single policy initiative, a single plan, a single idea how she will prioritize the many issues facing Hoboken.  Instead, she is playing it very 'safe' by not telling the public what she will do- is counting 100% on her personal charm (she is) to win this race.  Because her surrogates have no policy initiatives to pitch, they spend all their energy trashing Mayor Zimmer,  Ravi Bhalla, and Jim Doyle, John Allen and Emily Jabbour in very unkind ways.

Nason doesn't have time for that nonsense. She has plans, priorities and a governing philosophy grounded in her Republican roots.

The following letter was sent by Karen Nason to Hoboken Republicans;  she articulates how her vision for Hoboken is rooted in her Republican Party values.

Again, these are her opinions, not mine.

  1. Well done.

She's definitely one of the few (only...? lone...?) winners in this election. Hope she stays engaged.

  3. This so-called vision she articulates is that she's a Republican.

    1. She had planned a fundraiser for her campaign. Instead she's donating the money to hurricane relief. Go Team Jen. More ugliness for no particular reason.

    2. at least karen doesn't hide the fact that she's a republican, unlike your candidate "jen".

    3. Karen is a lovely person who has done a wonderful thing here and deserves kudos from all who care about our community and goodness in general.

I think I'm stating fairly obvious empirical fact and mean no disrespect whatsoever when
I say it appears unlikely that Ms. Nason will be our next mayor. The only folks who would therefore feel inclined to snipe at her are those who feel they are in competition with her for the fourth-place finish.

    5. Uh - Jen is a Republican. I'll take Karen over Jen any day of the week b/c she doesn't hide who she truly is. She appears to be quite open and honest about her positions.

    6. Karen is a great gal, but the republican thing is too hard for me to get around. I have respect for her being honest about it, Jen is a too to some extent, and Cunningham switched parties for political expediency, but does anyone believe he's a democrat? DeFusco maybe a republican too for all we know, just by looking at his running mates and backers.
