BREAKING: DeFusco PANICs over Eminent Domain for Dry Dock! (But why?)

Has Mike DeFusco cut a deal?
Whoa!

Within minutes of the mayor's Thursday press release  (apprising the City Council that she will ask them to authorize the use of eminent domain for the City's negotiations to obtain the Dry Dock site), a panicked Mike DeFusco blasted out a press release to STOP her!

DeFusco's instant, hyperventilating  reaction suggests he has been cutting deals around the Zimmer administration that don't include eminent domain.  Note his indignant, petulant tone as if to say,  "how dare she mess with my back door deal!"

Defusco's release notes:
"Earlier this year, DeFusco announced a plan to build an Urban Beach and Floating Pool complex at the site, which would complete the city’s waterfront walkway, prevent residential development of the area and include commercial development to add to the city’s tax base."
So what?

Defusco has no authority to implement any "plan" as a Councilman, and that is all he is.  Barely. He has not been elected mayor, not yet.

And check out where he unwittingly displays knowledge of the terms and conditions of a potential deal that he is not supposed to have.
"My understanding is that the property owner is willing to begin a good faith negotiation, but not with this current administration and not before the upcoming election when our city’s leadership for the next four years will be decided."
How does Mike DeFusco "know" that the property owner is "willing to begin a good faith negotiation, but not with this current administration..."?

Do you SMELL something?

One of DeFusco's minders appears to have an interest in killing the eminent domain negotiating  'tool'.

Why?  The ED tool is supposed to help the City negotiate a fair price in good faith.

Whose side is DeFusco on?

It appears Mike DeFusco is on the developer's side, not the City's.

Has he already cut a deal?

DeFusco' meltdown over using the eminent domain tool to buy the Dry Dock site brings back memories of his meltdown at the vote for eminent domain for the Academy bus lot to expand the SW park.  Do you remember that?  It was last January.  DeFusco voted "present" at first reading.
"The 8-0 tally with a single "present" vote by Councilman Michael DeFusco, approved on first reading an ordinance authorizing the acquisition of the Academy property, "and the institution of eminent domain proceedings, if necessary." A second vote to adopt the ordinance could be taken Feb. 1.

DeFusco said he wanted more time to study the issue, "so I can make a more informed decision on the use of eminent domain," the process by which municipalities acquire private property and reimburse the owner based on an appraisal of its market value."
What a bull$hitter!

DeFusco came to vote "no"  that night, but over 30 speakers showed up to the meeting, all in favor of eminent domain.  That public appeal flipped the Dark Side to vote "yes"- except DeFusco.

Does anybody remember that?

Mike DeFusco has been a developer's puppet from Day 1. He's in North Bergen's pocket, now this...

Don't you smell a stink?

Really, why would DeFusco oppose the authorization to use  eminent domain unless he was looking out for the property owner or for the interest of third parties who stand to profit from his "Urban Beach and Floating Pool complex?"

This guy is a rat.  He cares about himself above all  things.  Remind you of anyone?

  1. Defusco's reaction fails the smell test bigly. I'm betting it makes more sense when you get a look at his ELEC's. But MSV is skipping that and taking the opportunity to complain about the mayor some more.

MSV is also telling us about Jen's "cross-over appeal" in Church Towers. Cross-over from what to what? Church Towers has been an MSV metaphor for the Russos, living the good life on the taxpayer's dime, the cynical paradox of having both subsidized housing and shore housing. So again, crossing over from what to what?

Don't ask. Don't ask what's really driving Defusco. Don't ask if Jen votes in CT is actually good for Hoboken. As long as it's good for Jen, that's all you need to know.

    1. Well Jen seems to be crossing some of the same lines Bet Mazin did so my guess is Jen's idea of good for Hoboken translates more into what is good for her personally at this point in time. Too bad MSV swallowed that horse puckey and appears to be going along for the ride. Shocking how he has gone all in on Jen despite her being all flash, no substance and more than a little questionable any time something of importance comes up.

  2. Curious to see where Jen comes down on the tax overhaul. Losing the state and local tax deduction would be a disaster for Hudson, and unfixable by any sort of increase in the standard deduction. Will we be told:

    a) It's a national issue.
    b) It's just another thing she doesn't embrace about the party she embraces (immigration policy, woman's right to choose, tax policy, healthcare policy, president). Maybe a list of reasons she does support the GOP would be less time-consuming.

    1. If we lose the state and local tax deduction, and AMT goes away, many people will come out with close to the same tax burden we have now. Even if AMT stays, if we lose the state and local tax deduction, many people won't get captured in AMT and will come out close to the same as they do now. AMT has made many people lose the benefit of the state and local tax deduction.

  3. It sounds like DeFusco has cut a deal with the property owner not to talk to the city while Zimmer is mayor - which is 3 months not 40 days. Why would the developer do that unless Mike promised them something?

That's pretty stinky. Does anybody know if it's a crime? It seems to me like it might be. Cammy 2.0. Will Mike meet the same fate?

  4. This place is filled with delirious people:. Why don't you ask Zimmer what's the urgency of this deal ? 3 months before she resigns she decides to push the gas pedal? .. I think she wants Ravi's followers to think he'll have a paved (yeah right .. 10 years for Washington st to happen ) road in that area in case he wins so he can give business to his Florio friends and build a pop up water park .
You know what's a crime ? Her decision making !!

    1. Tell us what you know about Mikey's back door deal. Does he get a big campaign contribution split up among third parties? Or something else? C'mon HO, spill it. This stinks to high heaven, and everybody can smell it.

    3. Yes, Ho-beauken-doubt, delirious with how good things have been for ethical, honest Hobokenites since Zimmer took office. Delirious at the prospect of that good work continuing under Bhalla. Your opinions to the contrary reveal that you moved here 15 minutes ago, and will be gone within a short while. Can't happen soon enough. But in your short tenure, you've managed to align with the corrupt ambitions of all the wrong people. That has to be some kind of record. Had Zimmer heard of a potential sale and done nothing, you'd be screaming about missed opportunities. But what is more likely is that DeFiasco has been angling to be in the favored position to broker this deal, hence the premature infatuation of his wet-dream rendering. Like everything else he attempts in areas he has no authority in, he's in over his head, swimming with sharks, and it too would have failed, and / or Hoboken's taxpayers would have been gravely disadvantaged. We've all seen this movie before.

  5. can i just take this opportunity to say "tiff's" Facebook post yesterday about this union dry dock/eminent domain matter is HI-LAR-RI-OUS!! she thought she was oh-so clever and made all kind of nefarious insinuations about the mayor's dealings and twitter communications, and then absolutely got her ass handed to her by people calling her out. it's a real treat to then watch her squirm and twist in the comments, desperately trying to reframe her earlier comments, LOOL! recommended reading for some afternoon entertainment. nice one, tiff!

    2. Yes, and you've got Fallick and Blanco posting on that thread, two of the three furies of fake frenzy. Petulant council members will politicize this, Hoboken will lose, our planning and zoning boards will mess this up like they did with the Monarch, and the Barry boys will build something awful there.

    3. i stopped visiting crazy horseshitville a long time ago, so don't know what he said about it. i just got a kick out of how a number of people basically called tiff out on her BS, and how she totally twisted in the wind afterwards trying to explain her way out of it. keep digging, tiff, you've almost convinced us!!

just glad to see there are people in town who look at things objectively, aren't swayed by the giafusco spin, and speak up about it.

    4. According to the posts on MSV, it looks like the Fund for a Better Waterfront folks have been positioning themselves as a broker for a type of exchange that isn't legal under current zoning, and losing the last shred of a reputation they had left.
