Will Hoboken mayoral candidates get any love at the state level from either New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy (Dem) or Kim Guadagno (GOP) ?
Let's take a look!
As reported above, in 2011 NJ Governor Chris Christie's Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno came all the way up from Trenton to personally swear in Hoboken's 6th Ward candidate Jen Giattino.
What seemed no big deal in 2011, is food for thought now; Guadagno is NJ's Republican gubernatorial candidate, and Giattino is a Hoboken mayoral candidate. Further, when the Giattino campaign is queried about Giattino's Republican affiliation they respond this way:
Then why did Giattino arrange for the 2nd most-powerful Republican official in New Jersey to swear her in instead of Hoboken City Clerk Jimmy Farina?
Farina was available.
Giattino cannot use her state-level Republican party connections- having a powerful Republican figure to swear her in as Hoboken Councilwoman, then later dismiss discussion of her Republican Party affiliation because municipal elections are "non-partisan."
She can't have it both ways.
The invitation to new Jersey's future Republican gubernatorial candidate Guadagno to give Giattino her first oath of office, to begin her journey in Hoboken politics, is strongly symbolic. The candidate cannot run from it now. Jen chose to start her council career on a partisan footing.
For the record, Lt. Gov. Guadagno swore in Reform's Peter Cunningham as well. Farina swore in Beth Mason, Tim Occhipinti, Terry Castellano and Mike Russo.
So, will Kim Guadagno endorse in Hoboken?
There are two declared Republican mayoral candidates: Karen Nason and Jen Giattino.
Nason has a relationship with Kim Guadagno and the U.S. Senator from Maine, Susan Collins (R).
Giattino has a relationship with Guadagno, so the GOP candidate may endorse either if asked.
A Guadagno endorsement would help Giattino and Nason fundraise. Certainly other statewide Republican groups would like to see Hoboken flip parties. GA sees no downside. Were I advising either campaign (I'm not) I'd ask for Guadagno's endorsement. Will they?
Everybody knows that Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy endorsed Mayor Zimmer early on. Murphy even headlined two events hosted by Zimmer: an October 18, 2016 meet-n-greet for Weehawken Mayor Turner, and her April 17 fundraiser at Porter Collins.
Yep, he was all in for Team Zimmer; on March 24 Murphy headlined a fundraiser for Ravi Bhalla.
Here's clip of Phil's speech (don't be distracted by the floating toupee ("modesty toupee"), GA was trying to cover the bald guy in the front row).
Did you hear that? Phil Murphy said that he and Ravi "fell in love with each other a couple of years back." So...
If Phil Murphy loved Ravi in March, can he love him again?
Doesn't love mean never having to say you're sorry?
A Murphy operative declined to reply. Perhaps Phil (and his love) are waiting in the wings to see who emerges at the front of the pack, and if that person is a Democrat. Murphy may also be taking cues from the very silent LD-33 Senator Brian Stack.
In the meantime, here's something else to think about: the September 5 deadline to submit petitions for the November ballot fast approaches.
Will there be a September surprise? Stay tuned.
Let's take a look!

DEMOCRAT

The question is not only whether Guadagno will endorse Giattino, it is whether Giattino will endorse Guadagno, the woman who Mayor Zimmer said threatened to withhold resiliency aid to Hoboken in the wake of Sandy unless the over sized Rockefeller project was moved along in the north end.
ReplyDeleteGiattino was silent as a clam at the time (like she was on rent control, HoLa etc.). Wouldn't a leader have spoken up? Giattino knows Zimmer well, and as the story makes clear, knows Guadagno too.
Who does Giattino believe? The Mayor of her City or Kim Guadagno and Chris Christie?
We'll likely never know, since Giattino's idea of "leadership" involves never publicly taking a controversial position and privately telling people whatever she thinks they want to hear.
Very good questions. As an unofficial spokesman for the Giattino campaign, I can offer a GIANT insight that what both we and our non-aggression-pact cohorts over at Camp DeFusco are peddling is a not-so-whispered campaign that the conversation between Mayor Zimmer and Lt. Gov. Guadagno may have boiled down to a big misunderstanding. The Mayor is, according to this line of thinking, not all that bright, and there are "many" people now "coming out of the woodwork" claiming they too have had conversations with her that she seems, in hindsight, to have fundamentally misunderstood.
DeleteThis is what was known in 2009 as the "Dumb, Dumb Dawn" campaign as promoted then through the Mason-then-Cammarano campaigns. But don't worry - we're not stealing Lane's lines, just borrowing them.
Ok SGI, I'm going to say it. Your schtick is old.
DeleteI beg to differ, snoopster. I find SGI's satire sharp, funny and skewers subjects in a way that exposes their folly. Here SGI seems to be calling out a DeFusco whisper campaign that's recycling the old Lane line that Dawn is an idiot and Stan is the Shadow. SGI's "schtick" is fun, sometimes brilliant, and welcome here. If it bugs you, just ignore!
DeleteThanks, GA. I'm not a giant for all seasons, it's certainly true. But I know satire fodder when i see it, and I know of what I speak.
DeleteBtw, that whisper campaign isn't just from DeFuscoland. Non-aggression pact, sometimes outright collusion.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Giant knows.

ReplyDeleteBrice thinks of himself as a tough New York dude, but he doesn't have the guts to peddle the long discredited mason inspired dumb Dawn narrative publicly with his name attached. Neither does his Giant alter ego.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad, but the only difference I can see between these clowns and the crazy folks who sued them is the the other guys were more articulate and far smarter. And it's pretty obvious from the way things turned out that they weren't all that smart.
Sad.
Dead wrong, numbers. I have 50,000 emails and a 5+ year SLAPP suit to show you that there are many differences between us and the perpetrators of the fraud upon the taxpayers of Hudson County.
DeleteGA you are not one of the clowns I referred to. Far from it.
ReplyDeleteI stand by my opinion that, except for the actual filing of the SLAPP suit itself, there are more similarities than differences between those I referred to and H411 and the SLAPPers. And as you know I have read those emails too.
I will say, however, that one difference is that nothing on MSV is ghostwritten. The horse writes his own "stuff."
Meanwhile our lovely non-aggression pact is in full effect over at Mile Square Collusion, where my mentor
ReplyDeleteMr. Horsey is quoting DeFusco to attack Backroom Bhalli on behalf of Giattino.
It was quite a masterstroke if we do say so ourselves - first we run a press release from a group of council members, straight out of the old Mason-Russo playbook. Then run the mayor's announcement, while declaring we've "recently changed the longstanding policy of not commenting on announcements," then unleashing a litany of DeFusco talking points on behalf of co-candidate Jen Giattino.
We're so brilliant! We're gonna be the power behind the throne! Somebody get a plunger, this throne is clogged with horseshit!

I will also call Mr. Horsey a "liar."
DeleteHe claims "MSV obtained a copy of Councilman Ravi Bhalla's recusal (from Suez) email from non-governmental sources..."
Well, that is pure bullshit. GA asked for and got the email from Ravi, and here is the header- the email which was sent YESTERDAY only went to governmental sources (except Jabbour) and he did not get it from HCV. Which means... in the model of a leaky Beth Mason, who forwarded council communications to political operatives, one of the persons on the GOVERNMENTAL distribution gave a "complete email" to MSV. My guess is MSV got the "compete email" from a councilperson on Team Giattino. It's not the crime, it's the cover-up.

Looks like the election nationalizers are at it again!
ReplyDeleteOur Dear Leader is seriously considering rescinding the DACA program. Contrary to what the nationalizers tell you, it's an exciting time for the so-called "Dreamers." They could soon find themselves living in a brand new country! Or not! Could go either way, depending how Dear Leader feels after pinching off the morning's constitutional tweets.
For anyone who's done some traveling, you have to be thrilled for these youngsters. It's like going on your first business trip abroad! And without the boring been-there-done-that coming back part.
But the nationalizers will have you believe that cancelling DACA has local ramifications.
ABSOLUTELY FALSE!
Yes, some of your neighbors (the ones who thoughtlessly allowed their work permits to expire!) may be liable to being rounded up and deported like common criminals. But that's when you'll want to refer to the Team GiaFusco corporate website where you'll be reminded that it's all about...
The Rule of Law!
And if The Rule of Law happens to change some time in the next few days, why then the newly minted criminals are getting what's suddenly coming to them, that's all. And let's not forget that not all of them will get deported. They'll just live in constant fear, that's all. But again - exhilarating, right? Like taking a ride on a poorly maintained roller coaster. Whooosh! Memories to last a lifetime!
Either way, it's not a local matter, regardless of the nationalist hand-wringing. If you happen to see a so-called Dreamer cowering in a doorway in town (as they should!) just remember: they're no longer your neighbors. They're part of a national problem and no concern whatsoever to local politics. Just point them out to law enforcement so they can be whisked away to their wonderful new home in a far off land!
Don't think of it as turning on a neighbor, think of it as Patriotism! You'll be freeing up jobs for Real Americans. Do these sound like Real Americans to you???
And don't forget, it can be family fun too! Why not get the kids together after church on Sunday and walk through the streets of Hudson County looking for so-called Dreamers to rat out! Whoever finds the most gets a prize! But watch out for the nationalizers! They are violently opposed to three things in particular:
1) The Rule of Law!
2) Patriotism!
3) Kids having fun and getting prizes after church!
We at Team GiaFusco are aware that some overly sensitive souls (snowflakes...) may still have a problem with the sudden change in the legal status of the guy who lives downstairs. Or used to before he went on the run. They'll unfairly tend to associate Manuel's dire situation with one of the national parties.
But Team GiaFusco wishes to remind everyone that you can be a staunch supporter of the party that's leading the charge on DACA repeal, climate change denial, Islamophobia, homophobia, gutting the EPA, the full-blown attack on public schools, the list goes on and on... and still be completely untainted by the triumph of any of the above. It just takes incredible powers of concentration. And we at Team GiaFusco specialize in finding candidates with just that kind of concentration.
You're Welcome!

Correction Nancy went to Susan Collins State Senator's office and yes I know Kim.
ReplyDeleteOK Karen- thanks.
