EXCLUSIVE: Perry's Payday

Quietly filed, quietly settled.  The case of Perry 'The Hair' Belfiore vs the City of Hoboken, et al.

If you recall, at a City Council meeting on October 21, 2015- two weeks before Hoboken's ward elections-  two political operatives were booted for disorderly conduct: David Liebler and Perry Belfiore.

Both filed lawsuits; Liebler's filed his almost immediately.

Belfiore waited one year.  Then on October 21, 2016 he filed, presumably before the statute of limitations expired.

In his complaint, Belfiore alleged he was "physically manhandled" by the Hoboken Police Department officers and "thrown to the ground."  Plaintiff claimed he was "sore and in pain" for several days as a result.

Really?

GA's ears were sore and in pain for several days after hearing Belfiore holler at the Council.

Here's a coincidence:  Belfiore showed up  that evening with a folder of Carmelo Garcia's leaked emails 2 hours after PolitickerNJ broke the story of  "Ethnic Cleansing" Plaintiff's leaked emails!  (PolitickerNJ reported that Garcia's emails revealed communications between the Hoboken Housing Authority Board and the Mayor's husband, Stan.)

Fascinating.  How did Perry Belfiore obtain a batch of leaked emails from candidate Carmelo Garcia's lawsuit?

Here are some video stills showing Belfiore waving the emails then being escorted out by the police.  Does it look like he was "physically manhandled" by the HPD?

But, I digress.

So... Belfiore's litigation commenced. Defendants filed a Motion to Dismiss, Plaintiff Filed an Opposition, Defendants filed a Reply Brief, then... BOOM!

The parties settled.

No doubt, the City saved a bundle, but did Perry get a bundle?

How much loot did the City give Plaintiff Perry Belfiore to shut up and go away?

According to sources, Belfiore received a settlement of $51K.

WOW!

I'll bet that made his boo-boos from those big, bad policemen feel all better!

  1. This sickens me. The guy shouldn't have gotten a penny. And his lawyer should be mocked endlessly. Unbelievable.

  2. There I am with my hat on with Shaun McGarr!! It was an exciting evening!! But then again I show up and I am not even on council HUH? I bet I would show up and call in!!! You know when exactly will there be a debate?? Look so forward with all this REFORM! This is Karen the first person to declare when Dawn was running, and the only person who did not run in after her announcement like vultures!!!

    1. Reform is far from perfect, but if you've been here awhile, you'd understand how bad the alternative was and can be again if they're allowed to regain control. We had decade after decade of corruption, patronage jobs, no-show jobs, no-bid contracts, using the school board budget like an ATM, and the list goes on and on. We get that you're angry. A lot. But what are your concrete ideas for the future of Hoboken? Being pissed off at a city employee is not a job qualification for mayor.

    2. Ok fair enough. Please do me a favor come in and see me at Hoboken Hothouse anytime and I will speak with you personally about my platform. If you go on Nasonformayor.com you might get an idea. I will start a series of Coffee with Karen in September every Thursday night right after Labor Day so that way every one is back and can come to Hothouse 200 Monroe Street from 6-8:30. You will hear now as we all begin.

    3. Is that how it is .. ? Residents need to go to YOUR establishment to get a concrete idea of what your plan is ? I think you should reach the masses , not expect them to come to you .. I'm sure it's part of the learning process for rookies in politics ..
and the other thing is .. after reading your website .. we MIGHT ?? Get an idea ? I would hope to get a CLEAR idea and have more than those two ways of reaching the public if you want to pass on "important" information .

    4. So the website says nothing specific , doesn't inform what the problems are , how they will be addressed and only asks for money ... great

    5. No residents dont need to go just an offer. I DO meet the masses and will continue to do so. I will be clear about what I can offer and have done so. Rookie is a funny way to put it considering who is out there running.

    6. Tell me your credentials again ? And what about your website?

    7. Hobokened Out, what are your credentials to harass Karen Nason about her "credentials"? Are you a resident of Hoboken? Are you a registered voter in Hoboken?

Nason is entitled to run her campaign during which you can decide (if you live here and are registered to vote) whether or not she has the qualifications that you think she needs for office.

I get that you come here on behalf of Mike DeFusco's campaign. I wish you would spend more time here telling us why, as a rep of his campaign, you feel he is "credentialed" to be mayor. I have seen evidence to the contrary. But hey, instead of attacking Nason's "credentials" tell us about Mike's.

    8. She's the one running and at this point she's in a bracket with the bycycle guy and Romano . I think Hoboken needs to know if she knows what the real issues are and how to address them .. haven't seen a video .. her social media and her website explain nothing .. seriously nothing .. all I know is she thinks Hoboken's main issue is lack of free wifi for kids to play PS3 or other video games and say no or judge anything anyone else is doing , including the Zimmer administration but without offering her solution.
And yes I live in Hoboken and I am registered to vote . Is she directly involved in local politics? If she is then she's not a rookie (and my apologies)

  3. No serious candidate would advertise here .. just saying

    1. Not entirely true. Mike Defusco pays a guy to criticize his opponents here. But I get your point - no one thinks of Defusco as a serious candidate, and that practice certainly isn't helping his case.

  4. it turns my stomach to think that even a penny of my tax dollars went to this guy. hell of a way to make a buck, mooching off the city while most of us make an honest day's pay for a hard day's work in the private sector. i believe in karma (observe the sad decline/disappearance of castellano, cammarano, mason, bajardi, etc.). what goes around, comes around, oh hairy one.

  5. Off topic... This format is well-suited to an election season. Allows for perusing multiple articles in one view. Also, some articles have follow-ups or connected items that are separate - which will happen more on the way to Nov. Still loads fast too. That's a hitch on MSV. I miss the black background though....

    1. Thanks, Dang. I'm not sure I'm going to keep this one. I like the multiple views but a couple of administrator features are different/missing. The appearance of the site may change... still messing around with it.

  6. If memory serves, Belfiore sued the city once before and got a settlement. He also got into some trouble with the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, and yelled out a council meeting "call off your animal", referring to Bhalla. And that's how the old guard rolls...

  7. Why is Hoboken paying any attention to Perry? Isn't he the same guy who ran a business and failed to submit the sales tax receipts to the state? Was he ever accused of stealing them?

    1. Ha ha! My computer student! I wish you were here! I don't know the answer, was he ever accused of stealing?
