MEET Ron Bautista, candidate for Hoboken Mayor!

Before you dismiss him as the "Bike Hoboken Guy", there's more to Hoboken mayoral candidate Ron Bautista.

He's a young Ecuadorean immigrant and activist; On his LinkedIn page he cites the following as the "Causes [he] Cares About":
Civil Rights and Social Action
Economic Empowerment
Education
Human Rights
Politics
Poverty Alleviation
Also on LinkedIn, he notes his Candidacy for Hoboken Mayor:
I'm running for Mayor of Hoboken so that together we can build a clear mandate, that we want to have a city that is more friendly for people. As a community we're creating a social contract that sets initial clear goals and they are the backbone of our campaign:
  • Participatory Budgeting: have a percentage of the budget to be for projects developed and chosen by voters in an election process
  • EasyBudget: make it easier for everyone to know where our tax money goes
  • FreeofTraffic options: a network of express bus lanes and a protected bicycle lane on every street
  • EveryStreet so safe an 8-year-old kid can bike them and an 80-year-old person can walk them.
  • Sport fields for free use: keep a public calendar of times the public fields are available to free pickup games
  • Promote diverse street art and music year-round
  • Strengthen the Hoboken Public Library as the hub for education, arts, music, and public services
  • Make it easier for local entrepreneurs to start, operate, and grow by providing direct assistance
Bautista's video on his campaign website, explains his vision for Hoboken;  to make our City "people friendly" and create a "social contract" with the community.

GA thinks that Bautista's youth and idealism will appeal to the '30 and under' folks- hopefully he'll leave a few votes for Mike DeFusco!

Needless to say, Bautista's candidacy will energize our Hispanic community and folks far left of center.

As of today, he has not announced a slate.  Nor has he criticized the Mayor or City Council.

GA does like Bautista's idea about promoting street art; our neighbor Jersey City has so many amazing murals, even invites prestigious artists to paint them. ... while in Hoboken, we paint over murals because ONE cranky bitch complains to NJ Transit.  (Note, the foul bitch bought the condo within view of the iconic mural, long after it was painted.)

Let's get more public art in Hoboken!

  1. That horrible woman is the reason the Observer Hwy mural got ruined?

Why did that horrible woman move where she could see a public piece of art that offended her?

    1. I don't know her so can't call her horrible. I can say she's a rube-- an unsophisticated bumpkin who fell off a turnip truck in the big city. must have had a backwoods upbringing. Is she a hillbilly? got teeth?

    2. I have to agree with 12:58. How can one person unilaterally decide for an entire city what is good or bad (offensive) art? The destruction of a public work because a single crank makes a complaint is incomprehensible. This affects the entire city!!! She can decorate her living room. But who does she think she is to cause a public work to be spoiled?

    3. Kimbo probably made numerous calls and threatened to do a news story

    4. How about painting a giant Twinkie where the mushroom cloud was? More her speed.

    5. or a Brady Bunch Matchbox car!

  2. You're KIDDING!!!! I LOVED that mural and always wondered how it got disfigured. What an obnoxious despicable control freak!

  3. Run Bautista! Take Dufus Dawn's votes away from her and let Mike win. Thanks Ron!

    2. Really, those young folks really like a Sanctuary City candidate and lefty for sure....

    3. All those young people buying 3 bed condos for 2.3 million cant wait to vote for socialists... yeah right. They wont vote for Dawn or Bautista

Nason and DeFusco are much more likely to get the young professionals and abby boomer votes

    4. Those young people will vote to maintain and protect their investment in Hoboken. They and many more will vote for the people who have a real history and continue to make Hoboken better to live in and that is Mayor Dawn Zimmer. Between now and November that will become even more apparent to the everyone . Until then the malcontents and crazies will prattle on and on thinking they can change the inevitable.

  4. Imo, bauttista should start with a ward seat- ruben's ward seat.

    1. Ramos won in a landslide last time and he barely left his house. The whole town was working against him in the 4th ward, I doubt he's worried about Ron

    2. Did he pay more per vote, sorry I should say election day workers ?

    3. Remember the County investigators knocking on doors at 400 First Street in 2015, and all over the 4th ward re VBM fraud... some said a candidate's mother was telling people not to open their doors for investigators.

      Mama knows best!

    4. Yes! and they found nothing! We all still do remember them in 2007 too! But back then the Councilperson had to vacate a seat in order to shut the investigation down... Oh and the Lottery Tickets sent in the mail and Zimmer with Pupie on an Elevator giving out Pies in The Senior Buildings. Pies... Yeah right
Silly 4th warders vacating a seat is no reason to believe there was an investigation that needed to be stopped!

  5. Ronald is a good guy, but he supports almost all that Zimmer does, so while he might do it on his own, he's going to get pegged with the same tag Patehold was tagged with when he ran between Grainey and Mason
    Hmm, Lets see.
Popular Mayor but running for 3rd term is not easy for anyone.
What's a campaign to do if your energetic former ally may run against you ?

Find someone to appeal Old Hoboken : CHECK
    Find a 30 something: CHECK
Find someone who has liberal values and is hispanic : Double CHECKS

The echo chamber call for DeFusco to announce and his whole ticket is because Zimmer wants to know who to choose for the 3rd spot.
If Mello still thinks he's on her ticket, he's being misled. Zimmer leaks have stated that they want to figure out that 3rd slot based on DeFusco's picks.

    1. LOL...how, exactly, is it Zimmer's doing that Karen, Ron and (presumably) Mike running? You make it sound like Zimmer has lined them and it's no doing of their own.

    2. Wow if Zimmer is doing all that she sure is smart. No wonder she keeps winning elections and has gotten so much done for the city as mayor despite the constant attempts to undermine her. You guys should hang it up since if Zimmer is as smart as you say DeFusco will get destroyed. Maybe the reason he hasn't announced is because he fears the consequences of being humiliated by such a smart woman.

    3. Shady and Smart... just like the HCDO and Union City handlers she now needs to get re-elected

If DeFusco is such a joke, nobody would be mentioning him. Truth is the are scared to death of him- Ronald is being used.

If he doesn't critique Zimmer at all, you will know he's a plant

  6. I wouldn't want any of those political themed murals in my neighbourhood. Those ugly sidewalk sewer paintings are bad enough and should be power washed off. If you want to look at your kid's art work put it your refrigerator.

    3. Those murals are popular in third world countries and places like Jersey City.

      Delete
    4. What expressed "politics" are offending you? Or is your lumping in of Jersey city with "third world countries" all we need to know?

      Delete
    5. 4:13- stunningly wrong-headed, classist sentiment. Maybe you need to get out of the burbs.

    6. JC has real murals not the kiddie crap we have everywhere. Hoboken looks like a child's playland.

JC lures Shepard Fairey - we have sewer art...

    7. I hate those fucking murals.

    8. then don't live in a city, farmer toad.

  7. Protected bike lane on every street? About .2% of voters support this. And 90+% hate it so much they'll vote against him. Even Zimmer is easing her stance on bike protected bike lanes because she knows how unpopular it is. If MDF is a kid, RB is a toddler. Our town needs an experienced leader who can navigate through many real, complex issues. Zimmer isn't even that great, but she is the best of the bunch. And the only competent adult in the room.
