MEET Karen Nason, candidate for Hoboken Mayor!

Karen Nason, candidate for Hoboken Mayor
"My name is Karen Nason and I have filed with the State that I am seeking the office Mayor of Hoboken."

Nason for Mayor campaign opened on February 22, 2017

"I am the owner of a business called Hoboken Hothouse on 2nd and Monroe. I have lived in Hoboken for over six years and have opened multiple businesses in Hoboken starting on 120 Washington Street with the first "Hoboken Hothouse." "

Nason's first "Hoboken Hothouse" at 120 Washington

"The second "Hoboken Hothouse" is at 200 Monroe Street which is a wildly successful Café/Pizzeria in what was considered the worst part of the city. The Café/Pizzeria was awarded Best New Business by the Chamber of Commerce, and I was also awarded Irish Business Woman of the Year in Hudson County."

Hoboken Hothouse Cafe/Pizzeria on 2nd and Madison

"I want to put this invite out there... I will have a bus to escort the elderly and Vets back and forth so that they might enjoy the concert,  which of course I am not asking donations for but would love for them to enjoy."

Nason for Mayor campaign kick-off on Wednesday,  April 19

GA note:
Thank you, Karen.

It sounds like a great event. Hopefully, your supporters will throw some coin your way, but nice that you aren't asking up front.  (Go ahead.... lure those cheapskates in, and hopefully they will reach into their pocket!)

Good luck!

Comments

  1. Mason with an "N"

The public comment where she accused Jen Giattino of calling her a psycho at the last city council meeting was particularly special.

    1. Beginner's mistake! You must support DeFusco who's been in politics for 5 minutes and turned into a yappy chihuahua at the council. Not temperamentally suited to be mayor. At all. Very excitable, unstable.

    2. That's weird. I didn't notice that Defusco was referenced anywhere until you brought him up. The topic is about Mason with an "N", as was my comment. Why would that suggest that I support DeFusco; particularly when my comment suggests that I was none to happy with the candidate's "beginner's mistake" (I'd call it offensive attack) towards Jen Giattino?

    3. DeFusco will be a candidate. Defusco and Karen share the same base. since you pounced immediately to attack her, its obvious why. Karen is the opposite of mason, so you don't know either. Here is just one difference: one works hard on her own, the other was lazy, out of touch and delegated all her work to the help. Karen was mistaken about what she thought Jen said. Are you attacking the publics right to criticize their govt?

    4. You can't be serious! I agree that it appears that DeFusco will be a candidate. Beyond that, for the purposes of this discussion and in general, it's irrelevant to me who is part of who's 'base'.

Obviously, you're doing some campaign strategizing or campaign spinning, but I'm not. And, for some reason, your spin requires that Defusco be injected into the discussion.

I don't know who's base is who's. I like Jen Giattino and think she's a great council person. I didn't view Nason's comments as some kind of beginner's mistake. I viewed them as totally unbelievable. Even if she sincerely believed that Jen called her a psycho, and I'll presume she did, to enter it into the record on public comments (rather than pull Jen aside and ask her about it) appeared to be a political attack on Jen.
It's also utter nonsense to suggest that my comment indicates that I don't think the public has the right to criticize their government on anything and everything that’s legitimate. The psycho comment wasn’t.

Are you part of Nason's campaign team? If so, aren't you hopeful that she'll attract enough voters to win the election regardless of who's so-called base you view those voters as coming from? If you're not part of Nason's voter base and supporters, why would you care what my reaction to Nason's comment is?

Why does my criticism of Nason automatically link me to DeFusco? Jen ran on the Mayor’s city council slate. Thus, the only clue you have about my local political leanings is connected to the Zimmer council slate. But, you are quick to link me to Defusco because I’ve criticized Nason?! It doesn’t make any logical sense and is, most likely, an example of smarmy machine politics.

PS: That sound you hear is the mic dropping

    5. Methinks 1:49 doth protest too much.

    6. And methinks that 1:49 called it like it is.

    7. 1:49- Jen isn't running for reelection yet. Nason would have gone after Ravi, Dave or Doyle if she really wanted to score political points. Agree it could have been settled before the meeting. Doubt Nason wanted to look foolish and believed she was right. An apology would be classy.

    8. Ms Nason at the March 1st City Council meeting asked if the Mayor was getting paid from Suez Water and told by City Council members univocally she was not.
I had hoped that she was just an uninformed novice but at the very next meeting she launched into a second personal attack based on erroneous information on the Council President. This sort of behavior makes think she is not suited for public office in Hoboken.

  2. A psycho calling Jen a psycho.. this is Hoboken politics everybody .. never trust a woman with fake orange hair I say or a man that looks like an orange ( 45).. so much dye has serious mental implications

  3. Thank you Nancy for putting this up. I appreciate it!

  4. I had no idea who this person was... until I saw the picture of her former, failed business on Washington. Not a fan. Backstabbing B-word is a compliment.

  5. I don't know Karen but welcome her to the race, good luck! My only recollection of that Washington St store is they often commandeered about 30 sq feet of sidewalk out front and basically added a rent-free extension to their business to show off plants and pots. Hey, maybe I'm wrong and they paid for a permit to extend their showroom outside like cafes with tables outside.

  6. So Second and Monroe was considered the worst part of the city? Was it until YOU came along, Karen? Where do you think is the best part of the city?

    1. Not at all ,that is what some folks said to me, not to open on Monroe the business would fail.. I love Second and Monroe and that's why I opened on 200 Monroe. Hoboken is great, coming from the city after decades this is wonderful!

  7. Come on folks - this isn't the first time a fringe candidate ran for office and had diarrhea of the mouth and spewed a lot of nonsense. There is another perpetual candidate who has been doing it for years and we all just roll our eyes and think to ourselves "will it please stop already?".

  8. Karen has a legitimate beef with the city, and at least she's tossing her hat in the ring and running to try to change things, instead of just complaining. I wonder if she'd be better off running for an at large council seat though. Either way, like DeFusco, if she aligns herself with the dark side old guard, who are always looking for someone to prop up and then control, she won't stand a chance.

    1. So you are saying the nonsensical conspiracy theories are okay because she has a gripe w/ the city? Sorry, not buying it.

    2. anon@10:12, where's the beef?

      Delete
    3. Legit ? It should be noted that even DeFusco agreed with the City's opinion enforce the codes which limited Nason's allowable uses for Fuse.

    4. Her gripe being planning a specific kind of business without checking city codes in her business plan?

      Delete
    5. Yup, she has no idea of what she's getting into .. another Zimmer puppet ..

    6. She's running against Zimmer, genius.
