Change in the Defusco Era

Changes are coming to City Hall!

Tired of transparency?  Sick of Mayor Goody Two-Shoes?  Tired of competitive bidding  and litigating frivolous lawsuits?   Miss the City's BBB- junk bond rating?  Wish our hospital had been replaced by a residential high-rise?

Me, too!

Help is on the way!

Powerful Hudson County bosses are going to rescue Hoboken from all that good-government stuff!
Read about it in InsiderNJ!

See? What did I tell you?

HUDCO bosses have their Hoboken takeover all mapped out. They are going to run the show once they "collect the mayor's seat in Stack's district."

Hoboken residents, don't worry because the HUDCO bosses aren't  coming here for us!

Nope.... the HUDCO bosses don't give a crap about us! They're taking over Hoboken City Hall for the contracts.   And boy, they'll be up to their eyeballs in them.

That is, once developers start calling the shots.

For his first act in office, (shadow) Mayor Muniz will make a few tweaks to Hoboken City Hall: a keyless revolving door entry for the HUDCO bosses to come and go as they please, and a chute from the Mayor's office for contracts to slide out for collection.

These changes are estimated to cost $500,000 (puffed up for lots of beak-wetting).

Because the city will bond to pay for those tweaks to City Hall, our current Mayor Goody-Two Shoes has great news to share!
"Standard & Poor's Global Ratings reaffirmed Hoboken's excellent AA+ bond credit rating.  The AA+ rating is the second highest rating it can issue for a municipality.  S&P's report confirmed Hoboken's strong financial footing, including our very strong budgetary flexibility, prudent financial management practices, and very strong economy.

The AA+ rating is critical for our City, as it allows us to invest in important infrastructure including the second flood pump, the Washington Street project, construction of new parks, upgrades to our water main system, and more.  Thanks to our AA+ credit rating, we are able to continue investing in critical projects that lead to a better quality of life for our residents.

When I came into office, Hoboken was a financial disaster, with its credit rating just above junk bond status.  Thanks to our prudent financial decisions and efficient management in collaboration with the City Council, improving our credit rating to AA+ in 2013 has been one of my proudest accomplishments since taking office."
Thank you, Mayor Goody-Two Shoes!

Mayor Goody-Two-Shoes with  gov. candidate Phil Murphy
Now get out of town!

And stop bragging that you raised the city's bond credit from junk bond status in 2013 to AA+  (not to mention balanced Hoboken's budget) and kept it at AA+ for  four years in a row.

Like I said, that good government stuff is so last year.

Two terms of excellent management of the City's finances, solving chronic flooding on the West Side of Hoboken, keeping our hospital open, preventing the City from defaulting on the $52M hospital bond, balancing the budget, winning a $230M grant to protect Hoboken from the next Superstorm Sandy, among other things you keep bragging about... it's time for something DIFFERENT.  It's time for HUDCO bosses to run Hoboken.

For (at least) TWO terms.

Sorry, aspiring mayoral candidates Councilmen Mike Russo and Ruben Ramos, HUDCO bosses are in the driver's seat now.

  1. If you're up for an honest conversation - just limit comments to ppls google accounts, so everyone is accountable for their remarks . Let's see if you really care about facts, or just blurring them.

    1. Exhibit A in GA's move to ban anonymous posting. Why didn't you use your Google account, moron.

    2. I will be setting up an account - though with misgivings - the games some of the political operatives are playing always have to ruin things for people. Perhaps if they were a little less dishonest and less willing to play games we wouldn't need to set up an account. But given the fact they can't win a stand up debate on the merits of an issue, they resort to being sneaky and slimeing the place up with their nonsense.

    3. Anonymous at 3:05, tell us why you think Joey Muniz is trying to fix the race for DeFusco? Be honest.

  2. Thank you for your most excellent advice, Anon @ 3:05. Snarky dipshit comments like yours may be your definition of "honest" conversation - it's not mine. If you think facts are "blurred" here, don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out.

Good point, QOTV. Why didn't 3:05 use his/her Google screen name?

    2. GA can always visit you in that dump of a Newark office, though she'll need a baseball bat to beat back the rats.

  4. It should be considered that all this coming out so far ahead of the actual election could just be a way for the OG to set DeFusco to to try split the Zimmer vote for Romano or whoever they end up running.

    1. What ever the reasons, they're no good. With MDF butting heads with Zimmer so publicly, I think his distancing from the Mayor will leave him out to dry with little reform support.

    2. I think the OG regard DeFusco as very expendable and some may even see it as payback for knocking out Castellano. They split the vote in November and damage DeFusco for say Castellano's son to run for1st Ward on the Russo ticket in a few years.

    3. When are you planning to thank GA for nixing anons so your candidate has half a chance? You sound like you had a bad phone connection when you were writing down your talking points and wound up with a bunch of fragments.

And yes it is a DeVos sort of town. 4 freaking charter schools. Not that you have any comprehension of those issues.

  7. What disgusts me most is that "power brokers" pick our candidates. Stack picks our assembly person, now we have Sacco trying to pick our mayor.

    Play in your own yards.

    1. It's different in Stack's case- he's the 33rd Legislative District Senator, and LD33 is his yard... at least in the case of picking Chaparro, a Hoboken unknown, I believe Mayor Zimmer had a role. Chaparro was a great pick, she's doing a wonderful job.

When it comes to Mayor- ABSOLUTELY. It's outrageous that power brokers from Hudson County think they can mess in Hoboken's election. The best message to send them is to reject their candidate. Play in your own yards is right.

  8. Assemblywoman Chaparro at the recent State of the City address said that she did not vote for Mayor Zimmer the first time she ran. Then went on to praise Zimmer for reaching out to her while a clerk in Hoboken City Hall and encouraging her to seek elected office and for her continued guidance. While Senator Stack had to agree with Zimmer on backing Chapparo on his ticket it was obvious it was their mutual choice after the debacle that was Garcia.

Mayor Zimmer has been able to convince many people who originally would have not voted for her to trust and respect her because of the positive results that she as Mayor has brought to Hoboken. I know that sort of political transformation played a big part in the last First Ward election.

Assemblywoman Chapparo is doing a great job for Hoboken since she took office and many in Hoboken are amazed at what an honest, proactive person in that
    office can do.

    1. I agree. Assemblywoman Chaparro is the loveliest, nicest person AND politically proactive and effective.

I have liked her since her days filling in as ZBA Board Secretary... a down-to-earth, honest gal who only wants to do the right thing.
