"Romano says no deal's been struck" with HCDO

Yet another plot twist in Hoboken's mayoral contest: Hoboken Freeholder Anthony Romano has gone on-the-record with the Hoboken Reporter's Al Sullivan to deny reports he's cut a deal with the HCDO.
The deal, as reported, would have Romano give up his plan to run for mayor of Hoboken against Zimmer in November.

Romano, however, said he has not made up his mind about running for mayor, and intends to seek the Democratic nomination for freeholder with or without HCDO support.

“If I win the nomination, then I might run for mayor and freeholder at the same time,” he said. “If I win both, then I’ll have to decide which one to accept.”
There you go.  Now, do you believe it?

If a deal was cut, Anthony Romano doesn't want the word out. One reason might be to screw Mike DeFusco since both draw from the same pool of donors and endorsements.  Who would that benefit?  La di da....

The latest shoe to drop (on the heads of prospective mayoral candidates) is the appearance of Special Guest Ambassador Phil Murphy for Mayor Zimmer on April 17.  Murphy is backing Zimmer, that's clear.

And interestingly, when GA scoured dozens of photos on Stick's Facebook page, I couldn't find one of him taken with Phil Murphy; Romano has posted schmooze-photos taken at various events with everyone in Hudson County politics or representing our district in Congress.  Maybe I missed it.

When GA Googled "Phil Murphy Hoboken" for images, these came up from Murphy's visit to Hoboken:

Would Stick really throw in as a Hoboken's mayoral race under these circumstances?

On the other hand,  DeFusco presumed mayoral ambition may not be deterred at all by Phil Murphy entering for the mayor, we shall see.

More news...
Hoboken-grown statewide political organization, New Jersey Awakens is running a Freeholder candidate to challenge incumbent Anthony 'Stick' Romano!  Her name is Meghan Dunworth Dodd. Stay tuned.

For skeptics out there: New Jersey Awakens is an INDEPENDENT grassroots political group. It's stated purpose and objective:
The political system is broken and our democracy is in danger. Our votes have been gerrymandered to non-relevance and drowned out by special interest money both nationally and in our state.

We have a plan to change the system. Join us.
Anyone throwing shade on this group- shame on you.  If you believe that ordinary people cannot enter our political process to advance democratic ideals, go suck face with Vlad Putin like our not-benevolent Authoritarian-in-Chief Orange-Terror.

GA applauds the goals of Dana Wefer's organization like I applaud the ORGANIC protests springing up all over America to oppose Dolt 45's white nationalist agenda.

Vote for whomever you want, but don't piss on Democracy.

  1. Not sure how the wind is blowing for DeFusco... he made a big deal that "he's long advocated" for Newark St improvements and that "we finally have a plan to share" and the HR barely mentioned his presence and gave him one quote.

    1. I was at the meeting and he was barely a presence at the meeting.

    2. Present.

That could be De Fusco's campaign slogan.

No accomplishments of his own in his short time in office but he has been present when things got done by other people.

    3. DeFusco campaigned on the Newark Street topic and no plan for that stretch was introduced before his time on council....so those that aren't blinded by the light see the connection. He raised the issue and got some funding, good for him working with the admin.

Now, you both fail to mention how the mayors proposal wasn't even shared with the county, who raised a number of issues that weren't complaint with state standards. Great use of tax dollars, let's see how long this takes to roll out.

    4. Total bull but nice try at defensive spin. Newark Street is a Hudson County road and at the meeting they clearly stated that the plan that the was in the works before the State Transportation Fund ran out of funds and was delayed because of the State spending freeze on roadwork.

    5. Fact: they said the bollards and bike lane were in the works prior to christie's block, I'm referring to the "raised crosswalks" which are part of the plan. The County engineer specifically said that the state wouldn't approve "raised crosswalks" on roadways with traffic over 3k vehicles.

  2. “If I win both, then I’ll have to decide which one to accept.”

Well guess what, you ungracious political hack? Voters support a freeholder candidate who WANTS to be freeholder, and a mayoral candidate who WANTS to be mayor, not some delusional pols who will decide later which position he actually prefers.

Hey Stick, the people of Hoboken give you a hearty f- you, you arrogant bastard, for thinking you can campaign and ask people for their financial support and votes when you don't even really WANT the job you're running for. You really stepped in it this time, pal.

    1. That's true. You figure people pursue elected office because they want to DO something not BE something. What does Stick really want to DO for Hoboken?

    2. I'd be really pissed if I volunteered for Stick's freeholder campaign and voted for him, then he turns around and doesn't take the freeholder office if he also ran for mayor. WTF is that?

Also, does anyone in their right mind think for even a minute that Stick would "have to decide which one to accept" if he won both freeholder and mayoral races? Really? OF COURSE he'd take the mayor's job, in a second.

What a gasbag, so full of crap. And apparently he actually thinks voters are stupid enough to fall for this line. Wake up, time to kick this freeloader to the curb for ALL offices.

    3. For starters, if Romano wants to do somethings for Hoboken he could make sure the County doesn't hit us with another double digit tax hike this year.

  3. I don't think Anthony Romano will be the one who will be making the choice of which office he will or will not run.

He has never been a leader and has only been a pawn in other people's chess game.

  4. Is Wefer really running for Governor as a Republican or is this some sort of publicity stunt? Kim Guadagno is no charismatic juggernaut but there's zero chance a Hudson County Democrat-Republican-for-a-minute is going to get anywhere.

    This sounds crazy.

    1. Yes, she is. NJ Awakens is looking for candidates to run in local races statewide. There are "rules" or reasons why there needed to be a candidate at the top of the ticket. That's Dana. I'll have something up later.

    1. wow, this insidernj article blows my mind! i had no idea mike defusco was the anointed one, the golden boy of "powerful" hudson country political hacks, yikes! i thought he was just an innocent, hard-working councilman who just wanted to do the right thing for his ward. now it turns out he's in bed with the sleaziest hudco political machine hacks. wow.

fool me once, shame on you.

    2. The Mayor's got a helluva knife to pull out of her back. Who the eff are these out-of-towners picking Hoboken's next mayor?????

"Joey Muniz of North Bergen has the ear of Sacco and the Assembly Speaker and he's the town crier for the county's Democratic Party."

    3. That InsiderNJ article makes it plain as day: DeFusco is the new Cammarano, end of story. Be careful of those brown paper bags in the Malibu Diner parking lot, Mike.

    4. Don't insult Cammarano. Mike isn't nearly as smart or polished.

    5. You're right, Snoopy. I was alluding more to him being a vessel of the Hudco hack machine, who apparently think just because Mike's young that he'll automatically appeal to the "yuppie" (whatever that means)/newcomer voting base. BTW, it's hilarious how these old-school political hacks still think in those simplistic terms.

Hopefully Mike the Vessel won't want to crush me into powder!

    6. While I think the article is highly speculative, it is interesting to see how much the so called traditional Old Guard has fractured into splinter groups that are working against each other.
