True Romance?

Troubadours:
But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Michael is the sun.

What's that sound?

'Tis the merry Dark Side Troubadours!

Hark, Councilman Mike Russo is leading the wooing chorus below Councilman Defusco's balcony...

Troubadours:
See, how he leans his cheek upon his hand!
O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek!

Turn thy cheek, Mike DeFusco!  Quickly!   May their chorus fall upon deaf ears- yours!

What's that you say?

DeFusco:
If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully:
Or if thou think'st I am too quickly won,
I'll frown and be perverse an say thee nay,
So thou wilt woo; but else, not for the world.

No!  Look away! Look away, Mike DeFusco

Their song may be melodious, but their instruments are rotten!  What?  A little louder please!

DeFusco:
I have no joy of this contract to-night:
It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden;
Too like the lightning, which doth cease to be
Ere one can say 'It lightens.' Sweet, good night!

Good for you, Mike! Trust me, they tried Tiffanie's balcony first.  She gave them the finger.

So, now they've come to you, their second choice.   And oh, how sweet is their song!  Filled with promises!  Flattery!  They suck up like a Hoover!

Because they want something.  What do they care about your good name!

GA:
Good name in man and woman, dear my lord,
Is the immediate jewel of their souls:

Who steals my purse steals trash; ’tis something, nothing;
’twas mine, ’tis his, and has been slave to thousands;

But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.”

Poor, indeed!

The troubadours are gone tonight, but... they'll be back.   They'll sing louder next time, fill their instruments with beads and trinkets, flatter you...  try to lead you astray...

Reputation, reputation, reputation!
O, I have lost my reputation!
I have lost the immortal part of myself,
and what remains is bestial.

  1. The post below lays out the strategy being sold to DeFusco. "The dark side isn't using me, I'm using them."

At the end of the day I think Mike is smart enough to know that dog won't hunt. His day will come but not if he sells his soul.

"Let's get real. Raia supported Zimmer in her entrance into politics.

Old guard corruptos are weak and can't take back the reigns of power in the next election cycle no matter what they do, but the remnants will vote for someone, doesn't make them DeFusco's friends anymore than Raia is Zimmer's friend. They would just be a means to an end. After all, we don't discount Michael Russo's vote when we ultimately count the votes, do we? It's not an old guard vs new guard any more.

    1. A means to an end to do what? It is that "what" that worries me and makes me question whether or not anyone who aligns themselves w/ the OG against reformers is worth supporting for anything.

    2. Like it or not even with it's ever shrinking readership it is still the most widely read newspaper in Hoboken and that is the reason it is being used.

    3. And it's just one of four papers. Doesn't cost taxpayers more. City just uses HR instead of one of the other papers that no one reads at all.

    1. Not a fan of most of Frank Raia's local politics but on a personal level he is a nice guy. I don't think anyone would question his commitment to upgrading Hoboken's flooding and sewerage problems.

The way NSHA works was explained to me is that it is a committee system. Those who have tenure get to be on the important commities which actually shape how and when projects get done and then their recommendations gets voted on by simple yes or no vote and is pretty much just a rubber stamp. I can see the argument for having someone like Frank Raia helping shape policy would have been a good thing for Hoboken.

    2. Frank should never return to the NHSA... NOT EVER- Vote for Ed

  4. Yes, the year is very young but this could already be the GA image of the year, LOL! That trio used to play seductive tunes, but luckily their siren's call has been decidedly off-key lately in the world of good-government Hoboken. However, we must remain vigilant and never be dismissive their potential comeback reunion tour.

  5. Tim O. redeux. The OG settles on someone that they think "looks" the part of a "yuppie" that will be attractive to new voters and then plies them will enough smoke to blow their ass into smithereens, appealing to their vanity and ego, cooing breathlessly in their ear, "Your special, so special". But then, as soon as the NKOTB is not longer useful, that person gets dumped like a ton of bricks. Pitifully, some of those who fall for the sweet nothings from the OG actually believe the shit that was shoveled by the wheelbarrow load and then try to run on their own, well, because, their special. HA! I always thought that Mike was too smart to even consider that level of bullshit. Apparently not.

As to Raia supporting the Mayor to jump start her efforts for council member - that was a one time thing, unique to the era of change that was beginning to rid Hoboken of the OG and sweep in reform. That scenario will never be repeated. The change in demographics and the bitter lessons that Reform has learned since then make such blathering pie in the sky. Reform was in its infancy then, now it is all grown up and a potent force, as Stick the Dick found out last November.

    2. Raia's support of Zimmer had much more to do with breaking Mayor Roberts City Council power than any concern for reform.

      Delete
    3. Why is Zimmer courting Tim? Enemy of my enemy?

We all know there was a not-so-secret deal to re-appoint Raia last year, then Gardner applied and the administration tried to screw him by putting up a 3rd option to hurt Kurt. Nobody on that council is 100% beyond deal making- with the exception of Fisher and Giatinno

      Delete
    4. Courting ? No. Not hostile ? Sure why not.

Tim Occhipinti made a clear break with Mason/Russo at the end of his tenure on the City Council and cast votes that helped the reformers.

He is no longer in public office but is still active in social activities in Hoboken. So why hold a grudge that doesn't help you now or in the future ?

      Delete
    5. After years of being ONE with Mason and costing us an extra 4 million on the garage sale. Sorry Tim doesn't get a pass for the last 6 months of his term, anyone who wants to re-write history because he may be on a list to join Zimmer's at large ticket must think we are all really forgetful. We will be paying for that Garage sale bonds on HUMC for decades thanks to Beth, Mike Russo, Terry and Timmay... Never Forget

      Delete
    6. I don't think anyone in the current administration or am I giving former Councilman Tim Occhipinti a pass or forgetting his past political activities, but being civil to a fellow Hobokener is not in my opinion to be construed as courting. Clearly we disagree on that point.

If Mike is looking bad it's because he's making political moves that make him look bad.

I like Mike and think he can have a future in Hoboken leadership but that comes overtime and by demonstrating good decision making. Back to basics Mike!

    2. No one who has been paying attention wants to be "unified" with the likes of Russo, Raia and Romano. DeFusco can effectively represent old time Hobokenites and still appeal to new residents without having to make deals with the devil, unless that's what he wants, in which case, his foray into local politics will end pretty soon.

    3. But the money and votes that Raia and Russo get have to go somewhere... So the proof will be if DeFusco accepts them.

    5. 4:19, as you know perfectly well there is nothing inherently wrong with vbms. It's buying them that has been the problem. Are you saying they were bought - or are you saying whoever has the most vbms is running a criminal enterprise?

    8. Dear buttholes - put the fuck up or shut the fuck up. Are you saying VBMs were bought in the November BOE race by Forward Together?

It's a long-standing practice that is coupled to long lists of phantom "workers" on ELECs.

Is that what you are saying? We can check the Forward Together ELECs and find dozens of $35, $40 and $100 "campaign workers"? You mean like we can all over Beth's November 2016 ELEC?

Slink back under your rocks, slimeballs. Sleazy innuendo isn't a campaign strategy or you'd win once in a while.

      Delete
    9. 11:07...I'm saying the new machine now generates many more VBM's than the old guard. That concerns me a great deal. I also noticed more "campaign workers" than last year.

      Delete
    10. 6:01...you actually seem to be implying that "the new machine" is buying votes like the old guard does, is that what you are saying? because VBM are perfectly legal and fine otherwise. seems like you are trying to plant a (bad) seed.

    11. I vote by mail - you know why? I do it because I work full time and in order to vote I have to walk 10 minutes northeast from my apartment to get to my polling place, but the PATH is 15 minutes southeast from me. So I'd have to get up early and go vote. I choose to VBM instead. No one pays me.
