Obama's 2009 inauguration attendance vs. Trump's earlier today

At this moment, cops are fighting rioters with pepper spray just blocks from the Trump inaugural parade route.  It's unfolding live; an MSNBC audio guy was disabled by pepper spray.

MSNBC also reported  that 10-12 protest permits were requested for the 2009 and 2013 inauguration days; this year 103 permits were requested.

Stay tuned, people.

  1. All right I'll say it. There's an awful lot of white in the Trump version.

  3. The violence today in DC only bolstered Trump's position with his supporters.

    1. Violence is always wrong. But to your point, Trump-supporters don't need anything to "bolster" their support. Trump could shoot someone in the head and they'd still love him and make excuses for him ("oh, the guy ran into the bullet").

What the protests (NOT violence) accomplished was,, they sent a message to the world: a message that the majority who did NOT vote for him WANT the world to know: that this president is not "acceptable" to many Americans. Trump comes in with historic low approvals, and America will reject this orange-colored fascist. The world is watching.

    2. I was shocked and disapointed with the results of the election.
However, Trump played by the same rules as Clinton and won under those rules by a "huge" majority. The Electoral College Rules that the Clintons had decades at the highest levels of the Democratic Party and government to change them if they had a problem with them and they did not.

The hysteria and extremism on both sides during and after the election was to borrow a phrase is "deplorable" and can only hope that it can some how be transmuted into something that is constructive if not today soon. The world is indeed watching.

    3. sorry, @11:35, but the orange one has done nothing but bully and divide, so a lot of people feel he has it (protests) coming. no one said he didn't win, but in a free country the citizens have the right to protest his decisions, appointments and divisive rhetoric. maybe people are in opposition because of what he's promised to do (and what he will allow pence and ryan to do...say goodbye to equal freedoms and rights, and say hello to getting christian conservative "values" shoved down your throat). never mind the crass, undignified, unstatesman like manner in which trump conducts himself. as far as i'm concerned, what goes around, comes around.

    4. You lost me when you started off with body shaming .

    5. @10:16, where was the body shaming? do you mean calling trump "the orange one"/"the orange-colored fascist"? if so, you don't have much of an argument.

    8. yeah, kinda doubt the violence was by trump supporters, but it wasn't by libs/dems/women's marchers either. it's the same radical/pseudo-anarchist groups who smash windows at every large protest turnout. i don't think either side of the current political debate should be tainted by their actions.

    10. Huffpo? If all you have is that and DailyKos you should ask yourself if the information is good. If it were wouldn't mainstream news source pick it up?

And no buzzfeed is also not a news site.

  4. OMG, look at all those empty bleachers...and they aren't off the beaten track, they are RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE WHITE HOUSE!!! People killed to get those spots in 2009 (and even for Bush before him). Tomorrow's WDC (and worldwide) protests will dwarf this sad inaugural.
