GA's sign "RESIST" - red arrow (photo credit Michael Dempsey | The Jersey Journal) |
GA, a descendant of Polish and Russian immigrants, rallied for our immigrant and refugee communities with about 1,000 others last night in Jersey City.
Words cannot do justice to the collective expression of unity, determination and love for American democratic ideals that created our nation of immigrants. Don't worry if you missed this one, folks. There will be more to come.
New Jersey101.5: "Protests Against Trump Order Continue in New Jersey"
"TRENTON — New Jersey continued to react on Monday to President Donald Trump’s executive order temporarily halting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries.NJ.com: "More than 1K gather in Jersey City to protest Trump actions"
About 1,000 people rallied on Newark Avenue in Jersey City against the ban, according to NJ.com, holding signs that included Trump’s “You’re fired” catchphrase from The Apprentice. Mayor Steven Fulop told the crowd, “We are going to resist this every step of the way,” according to the report."
" JERSEY CITY -- More than 1,000 people gathered on Newark Avenue tonight to protest recent moves by President Trump that target illegal immigration and clamp down on refugee admissions.Nj.com has great pics. Mine, not so great but here they are:
Waving signs reading "resist" and "friend of Islam," the crowd roundly booed any mentions of Trump and, after prodding from one of the roughly dozen speakers, repeatedly yelled "you're fired," Trump's catchphrase from the reality show he once hosted. A woman named Susan Forte held up a side that read, with the letters bordered in white lights, "NO."
The rally was organized as a response to a flurry of executive orders Trump, a Republican, signed in his first week of office, notably one from Friday that curtailed refugee admissions. That order sparked protests at airports nationwide as some refugees and others were detained at U.S. airports."
As a descendant of Italian immigrants who spent weeks crowded into a boat, suffering sickness and fear, to seek refuge in this country, I will RESIST.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on TV yesterday.... Foreign correspondent Richard Engel interviewed an Iraqi family that had gone through 2+ years of vetting to move to the US. The Iraqi dad had risked his life for 10 years as an interpreter for US military. Some of his fellow interpreters had been killed. He sold his house, everything. The family had whatever they still possessed packed in suitcases. Well, at the airport they were stopped and told about Trump's ban. That they were blocked by Trump's EO, but they had no home to go back to. Engel interviewed the family, they were all in shock. The son said, "I love America. I can't believe this."
ReplyDeleteI will RESIST this unAmerican betrayal of our principles.
That is truly terrible.
DeleteWhy did the Obama administration make him wait 2 years for a visa? What was wrong with them?
Delete"extreme vetting"
DeleteOne of the more disheartening This American Life episodes.
DeleteGA - is the HoLa oral argument today? If so will you be there giving us a blow by blow? It's a shame that this stuff often goes under the radar until the spinmeisters start spinning after with lots of lies about what was said by who.
ReplyDeleteSorry, forgot to update: oral argument was moved to March 14. I'll post the time when its available.
DeleteNo blow by blow in real time- electronic devices have to be turned off when court's in session. I'll do my best.
Thanks for the update.
DeleteWH Press Secy Spicer just called Trump's private for-profit club Maralago, the "Winter White House."
ReplyDeleteWtf???? Trump also just jacked up Maralago's membership to $200,000.
Most CORRUPT administration ever-and it's just week 3.
If you complain about everything people won't take you seriously about anything.

5:10- None of those presidential "winter white houses" on Wiki was a business owned by the President, who used his presidential status to make his "winter white house" business more PROFITABLE. Presidents are not allowed to profit from their office. That violates the Emoluments clause.
