Get (cobble) STONED with DeFusco

GA's getting (cobble)stoned with Councilman Mike DeFusco- how about you?

It's easy, and legal.

Hoboken's historic Court Street needs some love- as in repairing the existing Belgian block street surface; missing blocks need to be patched, the surface needs to be evened, pits and cracks need to be filled.

Wouldn't you like to stroll down Court Street without twisting your ankle, scraping your knee or landing on your ass?  Don't you want to restore one of Hoboken's remaining historic treasures to it's former glory?

If your answers are "yes" and "yes" this all you have to do to get (cobble) stoned:

The petition urges Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise and the Board of Freeholders to approve Hoboken's application for a $500K grant.  The grant money will be used for the Court Street repairs (and if there's any left over, Willow Terrace North and South need serious cobblestone-love!)

By the way, that is some professional video.  Impressive. When you watched it did you think, "DeFusco's running for mayor!"

I did. So GA asked him, "When are you running for mayor?"

He replied," Mayor would be a significant pay cut and I'm enjoying my advocacy on the council."

You heard it here, folks.

So, please take a moment, click on the link and get (cobble) STONED with GA, Mike and the gang... we need 500 signatures.

I promise, signing won't give you the munchies.

  1. This sounds like a great project that should have been done long ago if we had a real mayor. Mayor Russo will get it done after he's elected next November. The incompetent we have now can't even get Washington street paved. Word on the street is that he's running for mayor with Raia and Eduardo Gonzales and an undisclosed fed up reformer who's supposed to be a bombshell and Defusco will deliver the 1st ward as well as young people all over the city. I guess he and the Russo's have made up. This one is going to be an epic landslide.

    1. Definitely! After the way the whole city got behind Russo's BOE ticket, winning the mayors seat will be a walk in the park......

Jeez buddy, read the labels before ya start emptying the bottles in your mouth.

    2. Mudslide, you mean. Russo running for mayor is my Christmas come early! Cant wait for that moron to raise his head and get whacked for his years of grifting. Has the price for a zoning variance gone up since his last offer of 15K? Whatever happened to that wired up Russo Civic Association? Is Ma $5 Bucks a Tow going to be his campaign manager? His felon father going to be his treasurer? Oops, that slot is already filled by that felon who stole the 800k in quarters from the parking meters. Yeah, that's right, as his cousin, crooked Terry said - its been all cleared up! If I didn't think that you were actually serious, this would make a great April's Fools day post. Idiot.

    3. BRING IT ON! Dawn will win and take a genteel bike ride after the fact. The kleptocrat days of Hoboken are over.

    4. That is so interesting! Can't you name the bombshell?

    5. Russo winning has about as much chance as my grandmother's constipated and bound up colon suddenly farting a tuneful version of Dixie. In other words, blow it out your ass.

    6. Every year I hear something about Mello flipping sides. So far it's never happened. I think someone doesn't like Mello and floats this rumor for fun.

    7. It's a seasonal thing. This is the Christmas version.

    8. 8:57- That's the bombshell? I thought "bombshell" meant a curvaceous female beauty- not a guy with facial hair. (That's how my mind works.)

    9. Mayor Russo? Can you guys please get your stories straight, which is it??? (LOL, see below for a comment on Al Sullivan's column last weekend):

"Zimmer's campaign to dump Soares will come back to bite her in the butt in a big way. Informed sources say Tony, a founder of the Reform Movement who remains one of the few politicians popular with both old and new Hoboken, is mulling a run for mayor backed by Ruben Ramos and Mike Russo with a ticket including heavyweights on both sides like Frank Raia and David Mello. Most experts think Zimmer would have no chance against a formidable Unity ticket such as the one Soares is reportedly working on putting together."

  2. I don't want to be the negative one here, but I hope this is truly limited to bringing the existing street up to a good state of repair. The existing blocks should remain and be reset- not be replaced by the late-model imitation ones used on newark st outside CVS.

Also, I hope this isn't the first step toward trying to make this another regularly-trafficked street so that we can start tearing down more of the carriage houses and replace them with built-to-the-limit "luxury residences" as is happening everywhere else in town lately.

    1. I hear you. I expressed similar concerns to DeFusco. He said the city would engage the Historic Preservation Commission on selection of bidders and any plan would certainly reuse the historic Belgian block. The public has to stay vigilant and involved.

    2. Is Court Street private property ? If it is private, no tax payers should not be funding it's repair. If it is public, it will be a great short cut for cars and trucks to travel up and down town once it is repaired.

    3. 8:36-It's public. Cars do use Court Street now, but I'm not a fan. Too narrow, pedestrians on top of cars, front doors open onto Court Street- not safe, IMO.

    4. Good idea but..

The story in this weekend's Hoboken Reporter states it is City a owned road, the $500,000 will not be enough to do the work. Councilman DeFusco has no engineering study, no budget, no plan and even though it is not a County Road he thinks the County should pay to do the work.

As Alice in Wonderland once said: "Sometimes I can think of six impossible things before breakfast."

  3. I am all for making things look nice in Hoboken using a chunk of the taxes we send to the County but based on the history of yearly double digit taxes increases Freeholder Romano and Hudson County has levied Hoboken taxpayers with very little finding back to the City, I don't expect to get the grant. That said if it doesn't and Romano decides to run again for Freeholder it will be a compaign issue.

The pictures of London Mews as an example of what Court Street would look like after $500,000 in cobblestones is highly optimistic if not downright disingenuous. Court Street is not a street, it is a back service alleyway used by private residential and businesses as access to their garages and will always be just that. It will just be a half million dollars prettier.
